Speaker 1:

welcome back to another super awesome mix. My name is matt said home, alongside my co-host and co-founder of super awesome mix, sam abusalbi sam. How we doing this week I am doing real well.

Speaker 2:

It is our last episode of the year and of season four cannot just. I can't wrap my head around that. That's incredible that's right.

Speaker 1:

Uh, last new episode of, yeah of the season of the year. Um, can't believe we've gone through four seasons of this show so far. So, uh, but you know what?

Speaker 2:

we're just getting started and, uh, really excited about season five, but obviously we got to wrap things up today yes, we do, and if you listened to last week's episode, you know that we did my 12 songs of the year and I had an addendum on there that you know that kendrick had just released his album and I need to update that addendum. I probably would have put one of his songs on my best of the year because I've been listening to that album nonstop. I love it. It is so good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I've gotten into it a little bit too, and I'm like he just made the cut. So maybe we include it on our first new music mix next year, possibly. I think that would be fair right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, year possibly. Okay, I think I think that would be fair, right? Yeah, you know, I mean I don't want to leave him out. You know, I I worry that we'll just have some bad blood between us and we know that he takes a feud very seriously.

Speaker 1:

So we want to stay on the yeah, on the right side. For us it's not no well, for us it really won't. You know, it's kind of like when the grammys come out and they go back like 24 months or whatever their criteria is, because it'll be like wait, how old is that album? And it'll be like it just won a Grammy. What are you talking about?

Speaker 2:

yeah, yeah, exactly. Um, so all that to say that this week is your 12 songs of the year of 2024. So we pick from all of our new music mixes that we do throughout the year uh, one every single month, and these are your 12 and, similar to mine, they are ranked in reverse order, so the first song will be your 12th of the year and the last song will be your first pick of the entire year. How was it putting together this mix? What do you think?

Speaker 1:

uh, you know, fast at first and then slow, I think, is the way I would describe the process it was like okay, that one, that one, that one, that one, that one, that one, and then I had like way too many, and then it was like, ooh, okay, and then you're kind of splitting hairs and then I even have a song on here. That was a little bit of a challenge, but yeah, we talked about it throughout the year. There was so much good new music that came out, so many big artists and then new artists. That kind of surprised us, and so I think it was another great year in music.

Speaker 2:

It really was, and, before I get into the mix, I just want to say since it's the end of the year, that's time of giving. If are a long-time listener of ours and you haven't yet left a five-star review on the player, that you listen to us on spotify or apple, uh, where most of you do listen uh, please take a moment to do so. We really appreciate it and it helps kind of spread the word about our podcast and, uh, you know we love reading those reviews. They, they make us happy. So, you know, a happy matt, matt and Sam in 2025. Let's aim for that. Let that be our entire shared goal, both hosts and audience. With that, though, I appreciate all of you for listening, and let's get into the mix. Your first pick, your 12th song of the year. It is Young Gun by Tori Kelly featuring John Bellionion yeah.

Speaker 1:

So this is kind of a cool um collaboration between two artists. I think we both kind of separately like um, yes, you've brought john bellion to the show. I think I've brought tori kelly to the show. Tori kelly, for all the parents out there, she is the voice of mina in the sing movies, the elephant, who is by far, I think, the best singer in the movie. You know, with all due respect to Scarlett Johansson and Taron Egerton, but yeah, I think Tori Kelly kind of wins the day in those movies. But yeah, this is a cool one because obviously she does really good. She's got an amazing voice. I think she does really good. She's got an amazing voice. I think she does really good just straight pop music.

Speaker 1:

And then john bellion, who's really and you can correct me if I'm wrong kind of more of an electronic artist and and just kind of bringing his own, um, you know, own touch to this, and so it just turned into this really cool collaboration which I actually saw get a lot of radio play as the year went on, because it would just kind of pop up. And it was funny because, you know, obviously I included on a new music mix and then I'd hear it throughout the year and I'd be like man, I really like this song. And then I'd remember that, oh yeah, I did. I liked it so much I put it on a new music okay good good, so that was pretty consistent that's great.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, I, I really like this track. Um, I love John Bellion, I love his music. You're absolutely right. He does kind of bring a little bit of an electronic sound to things and you hear that here with like kind of the synth backing tone that runs out throughout the song. It also gives me like a Postal Service vibe at the end. You know, he just kind of has that, that feel to it. But really it's a. It's a sad and beautiful song, you know. Know, I was paying attention to the lyrics again this time around and I think that that's the category that it falls in. Um, it's a, it's a great song and I was happy to be reintroduced to it again, you know, this time of year, because I'd kind of forgotten to kind of forgotten about this one. I was like it's really good. Um, so this is going to be on a uh, one of my currently listening to mix, for sure in the near, near future. All right, track number two and your 11th pick of the year.

Speaker 1:

It is dance with me by tones and I yeah, this is off the album beautifully ordinary by tones and I and I think she is one of those artists that both it's funny she consistently surprises. I don't know why she keeps surprising us. I feel like we keep using that word when we talk about her because, for those who don't remember, her big hit was that dance monkey song, like four years ago, which was kind of an earworm and it's like what is this song right, but like kids loved it. It got a ton of radio play right. But since then she's come out with a couple of albums and we featured songs on there before and she's got such a good voice and she's put together these songs that are so much more listenable than that one and just sort of you know, not just sort of redundant, earworm-y type things.

Speaker 1:

And this one I mean. You know you're probably spending the holidays with family and we all have different reactions to that, but no matter what, I think this is a song that's going to put you in a good mood. If the family does not put you in a good mood, I think it's a great one, just as you start the new year and just to feel good about yourself, all of that. So when this one popped back up as I was going back through music. I just immediately fell back in love with it and have listened to this one several times since then. So big fan of this one, big fan of Tones and I, and so had to be on the top 12.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely. Tones and I is in that category of music that we've talked about many times, where it's like we kind of don't listen to them and then we'll listen to a song of theirs, of this band or artist, and we'll be like, wow, we need to listen to more of them.

Speaker 2:

Um, I think notably heim and macklemore are on that list yeah, I'm sure there's a number of others we've mentioned historically, but um tones and I certainly. Yes, like I, I just recently featured uh cloudy day on on a mix when I was on Jen's show. What are you listening to? And and same discussion just absolutely love it so much. Better than dance monkey, this track in particular. I was listening to it, uh, on speakers whenever I was running through your mix again and my wife just broke out into you know spontaneous dance and she was like I feel like I could be doing like a dance workout class to this song and that's the vibe that it brings, and it's really good, right.

Speaker 2:

Anytime a song gets you to just want to start to dance, it's done its job, I think, especially with a title called Dance With Me. So she nails it, and it's a great track, and one that's really enjoyable. All right, let's go to number three on the mix.

Speaker 1:

Number 10 of the year Lotus by phineas yeah, this is off phineas's new album for crying out loud. Uh, apparently he has a sister who does some music as well uh, oh weird. Yeah, that's unusual, I would think it is, yeah, I mean reminiscent of the osmonds.

Speaker 1:

I feel like um yeah no, of course, billy eilish's brother, who is her co-writer, co-producer, you know. So I think I said when we put him on the new music mix, he kind of has the best of both worlds because he still gets credit and wins all the Grammys and everything, but he can probably still go to the mall and no one would necessarily just spot him out of a crowd the way Billie Eilish would be. So that's kind of fun, and I probably could have included Billie Eilish's song Birds of a Feather on a new music mix, because that was definitely a popular one. So yeah, this is a good one. He's a great songwriter, you know.

Speaker 1:

This reminds me of the relationship between, like Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift, where it's like you's like he gets a lot of credit and he's won a lot of Grammys for a lot of the music he's written with her and then we shouldn't be surprised that he can make music on his own. So this is a good one. This whole album is really good. It's actually kind of tough to pick one song off of it, but pick this one, but it's worth a listen. As you're going through, you know I'm sure a lot of your podcasts will be on on reruns the next couple weeks, so dig into some albums and and this will be a good one to listen to- yeah, I agree this.

Speaker 2:

This one is really good. I haven't checked out the full album. I should I. I just really like this song and the more, the more that I let it run through, the more I really enjoyed it. I think it's got a great chorus. It's just like a very catchy, good song. It has like an ending credit song vibe to it which I really like. I like music that kind of has that. You know everything is wrapping up, which is really good for like the end of the year too, so this is a good one. All right track. Number four, your ninth pick of the year, not super surprising here. This is Masterpiece by Old 97s and I picked this one.

Speaker 1:

You know the chorus kind of says every day is a masterpiece and you know John Wooden, the old UCLA basketball coach, used to say make every day your masterpiece. So you know that that line really stuck out in my head. Because we think about it good, bad or indifferent. I mean it's kind of a miracle day to day that things kind of operate the way that they do in our world. So, yeah, this is a great one. Another like really strong album by them. You know, if you go check out American primitive, I've always been a huge fan. Hopefully by listening to this show you've become a fan as well.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I like old 97s, I think. I think a song of theirs may have been featured at some point during the scrubs like season one through eight run.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure they're on there in some way yeah um, and I think that's what introduced me to them like ages ago, and so I've always appreciated their music. Um, but yeah, they're, this is a great song. I agree with the line. You know, every day is a masterpiece, even if it crushes you. I just love that and, like we talked about whenever you first brought this song on one of the new music mixes, it's a great great sentiment to have, right, like just being here at all is truly a blessing, it's a gift. And even when the day kind of crushes you, I think it's important to have that little moment of gratitude and feel like okay, there's another day, like well, I'll figure it out. So I really like that. I also still chuckle at the line I think I brought this up last time too where he sings um, you had room and you were bored, like b-o-r-e-d, so just a little pun on on room and board.

Speaker 2:

Just think that was very clever. So nice, nice little tidbit there, easter egg and in the lyrics all right, moving along. Track number five, your eighth of the year. I love this pick, this this is right here by Bob Villain.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, bob Villain, these guys got my attention just on the name, you know I also appreciate kind of clever wordplay like that.

Speaker 1:

As a reminder, they are an English punk duo and they both go by the name Bobby Villain, with Bobby spelled differently for each of them, so one is with a Y, one's with an IE. Yeah, they've been around since 2017. This is the first time I've really given them a listen, but it's such a unique sound and I don't know I was surprised to even hear them being called punk, because I don't know if, listening to this, I would immediately think of punk.

Speaker 1:

Me neither called punk because I don't know if, listening to this, I would immediately think of punk me neither. You know, I don't think this is one that's ever going to get a lot of radio play or, you know, be really high on spotify's rankings or anything, but I think they're definitely worth checking out. I I would love it if they came to the us, because I think they would probably put on a pretty cool live show too I could see.

Speaker 2:

See that, yeah, I love this song. I remembered it the second that I hit play because it samples Fatboy Slims, you know right here right now, which is awesome, but it samples it in kind of like a unique way. It's interesting they have like a little bit of a spin on it. It sounds a little different than just a straight up sample, but I really liked the song and, yeah, the Bob villain name really made me laugh. Um, just because it's you know, we we joke a lot about like seo for artist names and just kind of being being adjacent to a name can probably help you in some way um.

Speaker 1:

The other artist I was remembering is alana springfield or springsteen you know like that's right and I ended up discovering her that way.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, right, so you know. More power to you all.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's why we're happy to announce starting next year this podcast will be known as the Roe Jogan Podcast, Just going forward. You know there's a long story, long backstory in the name, but anyway, Roe. Jogan. That's what we're going to be known as long backstory on the name. But anyway, roe jogan, that's what we're going to be known as.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I'm excited to get into way more conspiracy theories than we already do. It's going to be a lot of fun no change in format.

Speaker 1:

Sam, we talked about this, just changing the name roe jogan. Okay, all right.

Speaker 2:

I understand, we'll'll see, we'll talk about it. All right, well, track number six on the Roe Jogan show it is Mountains Separate Us by the Dusk Whales.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the Dusk Whales they might be, you know, guest of the year. These guys and again I say this to all the uh pr people, musicians, whomever listening send us your stuff. We really do listen to it. In this case we listened to it from the desk whales and then we reached out. We're like, we love this. Um, when can you come on the show?

Speaker 1:

And uh, and it worked out that that they joined us and uh, I I think Jen was my co-host for that one they had such a cool, they have such a cool sound. You know, just a throwback to you know, like the 60s and 70s and just stuff that, if you like that. So I think if you have some older members in your family this holiday season, I think you should play them some Dusk Whales because I think they're going to love it. But I think you'll love it too because they have kind of a modern twist on it as well.

Speaker 1:

I think we're going to rerun their episode in our little mini holiday break here ahead of season five, so you'll definitely be able to check that out and do a deep dive into their new album. But can't wait until they start touring. I'm really hoping they make it down here to Texas but huge fans of these guys and this was the song that kind of introduced us to them. But again, I've listened to the whole album multiple times Strawflower Lane and it's really outstanding and it's really unique what they do. So I really hope they start to blow up here in 2025.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I hope so, and it'll be really fun to be a part of that journey. You know, I echo what you say. I love getting kind of new music announcements, new artist announcements, and getting to listen to them and reach out to them and have them on the show. It's so rewarding. It's probably the best part of this podcast other than just connecting with all of you listeners and hearing about what you're listening to. So it's a lot of fun and I agree, I really really like their sound and this is just a great track to highlight that. So I'm excited for them to continue their career. I hope they have a really really huge, successful one and excited Also really happy because they are they're like our Instagram besties now and I love that. You know it's great they do.

Speaker 1:

It has become something where we both kind of like each other's stuff all the time.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, no, I think that's great. You know, it's kind of like at the end of summer camp, you know, like you stay friends, I feel like that's that's, that's what happens, like you come on our show and then afterwards we're like hey, yeah, you know, I like what you're doing, keep in touch. Yeah, let's keep in touch, yeah all right, moving along here the countdown. This is your sixth pick of the year, track seven.

Speaker 1:

It is pink skies by zach bryan yeah, the top six here outside of one features a lot of big names, I think, and so we'll start here with Zach Bryan. I got to see him live this year when he rolled through Dallas. I mean it's amazing. I mean this was a guy who I don't think anyone had ever heard of, like maybe three or four years ago. And then, you know, he came through here, played at AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys play, and I mean he came through here, played at AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys play, and I mean there was 100,000 people there.

Speaker 1:

What was amazing is everyone there like man or woman, I mean everybody knew every word to every song. That's awesome. It was phenomenal. Like I don't think I've ever seen anything like that and just so many young people there. I mean he's just become this massive star and he went on a huge tour this year. Um and and what was really cool is he must have said thank you to the audience, like I don't know, mid song, before, the song, after the song, like he just kept saying thank you. I think he's just super grateful that he has this opportunity, because I don't think, as a former Marine, he ever was like, yeah, this is where I'll end up, yeah that's incredible.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a really cool story. I included this one on a new music mix because, you know, this song kind of describes a scene at a funeral and a family kind of gathering back together and kind of reminded me of when my dad passed away a couple of years ago and everybody getting back together. He's such a great songwriter but you can go through any number of songs of his off this new album or some of the old ones, but you're definitely going to get into his stuff. It's country but it's also very like folksy kind of Americana. So a little bit of something for everybody, I think. It's country, but it's also very like folksy kind of.

Speaker 2:

Americana, yeah, and so a little bit of something for everybody. I think it's really good, it's very accessible, it's gorgeous song. You know he's got a great voice. He's so talented Like. I think his talent just really like shines through his music like just instantly. The other thing you know you mentioned that he played at AT&T Stadium and it must have been really nice for all the audience members there to actually go to that stadium and see some real talent on the field for once.

Speaker 1:

Okay, all right, listen. Okay, samer, you just represent that New York media that just wants to be, you know, shocking and get clicks with your hot cowboys takes. All right, with your hot cowboys takes.

Speaker 2:

All right, we could also go with the Matt Picaffi show. That could be our sports.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that was another one we debated as far as changing the name of the show. Right, yeah, one of those is definitely going to happen next year.

Speaker 2:

All right, let's get into your top five here. This is such a good, good song, and I think this is the one that wasn't necessarily on a new music mix this year, but absolutely deserves to be here. It is Hot To Go by Chapel Roan.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this was one. I mean, we kind of missed this one. I like, uh, we had I did include a sabrina carpenter song at some point, but we kind of just sailed past this album uh, the rise and fall of a midwest princess and it was just massive. And I talked to my daughter's 11 years old now I asked her kind of what the song of the year was in her opinion, and this is the one she gave me. Was was hot to go, and so I feel like between chapel rome, sabrina Carpenter and Charlie XCX, whereas you know, a year ago all anyone was talking about was Taylor Swift, I think these three kind of took the mantle. Yeah, this song is, uh is amazing. You know, kind of like, dance with me by tones and I like it's gonna get you on your feet, it's gonna get you feeling good. Um, yeah, I mean, it's definitely an earworm.

Speaker 2:

Um, it is yeah it is confirmed there's.

Speaker 1:

There's also a great live version out there that uh will forte and weird al did together nice, in, which is pretty entertaining to watch. But she's great and she really does a great job just kind of making pop music, and I think she's a really strong songwriter too. So great debut album by her and excited to see where this goes.

Speaker 2:

Yeah same. I actually just saw a headline today on my Instagram feed that if she she said that if she wins a Grammy, she's going to have a controversial winning speech. And now I'm just like come on, grammys, give it. Give it to her Like I'm so curious.

Speaker 1:

If I were a Grammy voter, that would tilt the scales for me and be like okay, I want to see what you got, you know.

Speaker 2:

Right, yeah, and you know, let's be honest Award shows need all the ratings that they can get, so I feel like this is a good bid for her to win and have people tune in now and just kind of see what happens.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I generally avoid the award show, just generally.

Speaker 2:

I do too.

Speaker 1:

I would probably tune in, though, if I knew this might happen.

Speaker 2:

Same, yeah, same. So all right, grammys, you're on notice balls in your court, grammys, yeah all right, you are number four of the year. Another just just excellent, excellent pick here. No one can argue with this. This is Texas Hold'em by Beyonce.

Speaker 1:

Yes, off the Cowboy Carter album. This was my pick where I was like, wait, this came out this year and they had a couple of those on your mix. But yeah, this was really cool. I mean, when it came out it was frankly, everyone was just kind of floored by it that it was so good and it was just so country. But I think I said like at the time, I mean Beyonce's from Houston, so there's definitely probably some country music influence from her growing up. Really kind of a cool year because we had Beyonce do this. Later in the year, post Malone came out with just kind of a country album as well. Decided not to include him on this mix, had to include beyonce. Um, this whole album was really cool, really unique, just the way it was put together and I think she really put it together as an album. You know, so often you see now like people just going for just singles or this one, if you go beginning to end, it really is well done as a sort of a complete work.

Speaker 2:

No, it's so good, um it. I was just reminded of the story. So, you know, metlife stadium out in Jersey uh, east Rutherford, um, where I mean Jersey, especially like close to Hudson river and close to the coast is just such a mess of highways, right. I mean it's just like spaghetti highways. You take one wrong turn and you know you go from being five minutes away to 45 minutes away. It's like a nightmare there, right.

Speaker 2:

Whenever Beyonce played there, I remember talking to my Uber driver at the time, you know, after a different concert, but he was saying that all his like WhatsApp channels for other Uber drivers were blowing up and they were sending out notices like Beyonce concert, like be prepared, you know, like there's just going to be like massive gridlock getting in and out of that stadium, which is not incorrect. So, yeah, I mean it's incredible. She's such an amazing musician and for her to take kind of this, you know, turn in her career and release a country album and for it to be this good is admirable, right, I mean it's incredible. And so she's just such a talent, such a force and this is a really, really good song and again, coming from someone who's not super crazy about country, but it's hard to it's hard to argue with her talent and this track in particular. All right, let's get into it. Top three this is number 10 on the mix Three on the year. It is Turn the Lights Back On by Billy Joel.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, a year ago I think I was shocked that I would ever be able to include a Beatles song on a top 12, like you know, on a new music mix. But I was, and so also shocked this year to include a new Billy Joel song, because it's just been years since he came out with a with a new song with lyrics. I mean he did some like compositions, some sort of a kind of piano concerto type things. But yeah, this was this first new song in a really, really long time and it came from a meeting with Freddie Wexler, who is a songwriter but also a massive Billy Joel fan, and his girlfriend had kind of worked their network to get this meeting with Billy Joel just because she knew he was such a big fan. And then he kind of convinces Billy Joel that I got this idea for this song and kind of talked him into recording this song and I mean it's such a good song I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I I've listened to it over and over again. It's just such classic billy joel. He still can sing um, which I think is where, if you don't have the voice, I think that's where we really lose artists as they get older. But he still sounds very much like billy joel, I mean it's uh, the piano's excellent, the message where it's just like, whether you're thinking about a relationship or career or whatever frame you want to put this in, it kind of speaks to sort of making a comeback and sort of you know, getting back to things before it's a little too late and yeah, so it's a little inspirational too as you go into the new year, but yeah, it's just an amazing track.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's really good and you're absolutely right. Like I think you know, there's some artists that as they age, like their voice unfortunately just kind of goes and and it's hard to kind of hear you know that they're the same person through all their long, long career, like bob dylan comes to mind.

Speaker 1:

Right, like bob dylan, that's right, yeah completely different than whenever he was younger.

Speaker 2:

But this one you're like, yeah, this could have been released this year. It could have been released 20 years ago. He still just has that sound. I think that's incredible and it is a really good song. He's got a great formula. We talk about artists with great formulas and I feel like he has that. And I'm never going to be upset listening to a Billy Joel song because it's like, yeah, beautiful piano, great lyrics, great voice, check, check, check, um. You know I'm here for it, so it's really cool. Okay, your second pick of 2024. I really really like this one. I'm so glad this is high on your list.

Speaker 1:

It is so glad you made it by fantastic cat yeah, fantastic cat was, without a doubt, my favorite discovery of the year. Uh, this is technically a super group, although I've I had never heard of any of these guys, but it's anthony d'amato, brian dunn, don delego and mike bantali. Um, I mean their music. I mean, I guess it's like kind of folk rock. Isish is the way you'd kind of frame it from a genre standpoint. I listened to both of their albums. I think their first album was called the Greatest Hits of Fantastic Cat or something like that.

Speaker 2:

Right, it's so clever.

Speaker 1:

That's what I call Fantastic Cat. It's so good. Their website has a Rock and roll hall of fame eligibility clock countdown like on it. So I think you have to make music across four decades to be eligible. So it's that's some outrageous number, because I think they've been together for like a year.

Speaker 2:

You know, I mean the, the timer's got to start at some point. It's going to start, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Once you form a band like Sam, or if we put out a record this year, I mean we can start the clock right. Yeah, just have to put something out every decade. So, um, so yeah, they're they're really into. I mean, they kind of have a pretty good bit that they're into, but they're also really talented musicians. So it's both funny but also just, and they don't do jokey songs like they're also really talented musicians. So it's both funny but also just, and they don't do jokey songs like. They're not really like. These are just straight. You know, it's just straight music. Um included this one because, uh, sounds great. Also includes adam durrett's from counting crows. Somehow they got him into the mix as well, which was really fun, uh, because I mean I love counting crows as well. So, um, yeah, I mean keep checking their website, keep checking their tour dates. Can't wait to see them live at some point. Hopefully it happens in 2025. Maybe we can get them on the show at some point. I don't know. I'm going to keep reaching out, but we'll see.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you should. I think that'd be so fun. This song really reminded me of Head in the Heart. If you like Head in the Heart, I think this is a really natural fit for a mixtape with them. This is definitely similar to you. I would say it's my most surprising song in terms of discovering a new artist and then loving it so much. It's just such an enjoyable song and it's really really good, and they definitely get bonus points for the name of the band and all the name of their albums so far. I really enjoy both of those things as well. Alrighty, number one on the year, the last song on this mix for 2024. This is probably not a big surprise from you, but still a great, great song. It is Bright Lights by the Killers.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the Killers did not come out with a new album in 2024, but they did come out with this single. They started a residency in las vegas this year and they are from vegas and I think they wrote this song to go along with that, because the song about coming home and obviously bright lights in vegas, it all kind of fits together. But even if you're not from Vegas, I think you can hear this song and kind of relate to that idea of you know reflecting back in your life and or revisiting your hometown and you know kind of remembering all the things about it and remembering how far you've come. So it's a really well-written song. It's got all that great, you know killer's energy.

Speaker 1:

I said at the time when it was on the new music mix that it kind of reminded me of a Meatloaf song, which I mean I love Meatloaf. I mean it kind of had like this operatic or theatrical nature to the song as well. So it's perfect. I could see them playing this in a Las Vegas residency type setting. I can't wait to see these guys live. I still haven't seen them live but they're definitely on my list of bands I want to see live because I think that would be awesome as well. But, yeah, number one song for me, the song I just kept coming back to, bright Lights by the Killers.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I love that. I mean it's a really, really good one Classic killer song, you know, know, just like you said, has that high energy chorus. It's very single, sing alongable, if that's a term. Um, and I really love the term.

Speaker 2:

Definitely it's in the dictionary and I love the really long outro. You know I'm a sucker for like a very, very extended outro and this kind of has that um the other funny thing too you know the killers being on this mix in 2024. My wife and I have been recently re-watching the oc. You know the the teen soap opera basically of course, um yeah, from from the early 2000s and in season two.

Speaker 2:

Early in season two, you know, they go to their local concert place and they and the killers are playing and it's great, um, and I just think that's amazing, right. I mean, here we are, it's like literally 20 years later and like they're still successful, they're still putting out new music and they were great then and they're great now and and that is a very difficult thing to do as a band and as an artist, as really anything to just continue to put out like high quality content, um, for really more than a year, much less more than like 20 years. So it's really awesome to to see that and I just thought that was so funny. Re-watching them, I was like, oh my gosh, the killers.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome. That's like Beverly Hills. 90210 has a few episodes, if you go back, where they have some random bands like show up at a club and it's just like wait a minute. How are these guys on just random TV Like it's-.

Speaker 2:

Right yeah, and it's just like wait a minute, how are these guys on just random TV? Right yeah, no, it's so good. But there you go, your 12 songs of 2024. And if you missed last week's, you can be sure to check that one out as well, where I went over my 12 songs 2024. So that's 24 songs to get you through the month of December and as we get into the year 2025 and we get to do this all over again, which is so much fun and a really nice way for us to stay on top of new music and hopefully, for you to also stay on top of new music, because it just keeps coming, you know, and the bar keeps getting raised and artists keep doing new and cool things. So it's such a joy to be in this industry and, kind of you know, be on this podcast and be introduced to all of this stuff as well completely agree.

Speaker 1:

Um, yeah, we're excited about, you know, another season of this and to keep going and to keep discovering new bands and music and, like I said, everyone out there who's listening, I mean, send us your stuff, we'll check it out. You might get featured on here, we might even ask you to be a guest at some point. Um, so, the next couple of weeks, we're going to have some reruns playing in this slot, so, and, and of course, I mean, look, we're through four seasons, so we got a lot of episodes you can go back and catch up on as well. So so you can, you know, go back, like Samer said at the top, share the podcast with others, subscribe, leave us a nice little review, tell us what your favorite episode was. You can follow us on social media at super awesome mix, but we're going to be back with new episodes before you know it, and so we will, uh, we'll take a little break, but then we'll get to work on some more mixes. So for Sam, this is Matt. We'll see you next time.
