Super Awesome Mix

Exploring New Music: From Throwback Sounds to Hip-Hop Royalty

Super Awesome Mix Season 5 Episode 3

Matt and Sam are back with their first new music mix of 2025.  We kick off with some soothing yet powerful tunes from The Bluestones, as Sam shares his admiration for "Come Apart," a track that intertwines hard rock and blues with themes of resilience. Meanwhile, Matt brings a lighter touch with Nikki the Unicorn's "Swipe, Swipe, Swipe," a playful spin on the ups and downs of modern romance.

Next, we unpack Mumford and Sons’ fresh single, "Rushmere," and question if a "banjo sommelier" could teach us a thing or two about the instrument. Jason Singer's Michigander project is also in the spotlight, as we praise his engaging songwriting and uplifting track "Breakerbox." Expect relatable themes and a positive outlook that assures you, "everything will be okay eventually."

LiAngelo Ball’s unexpected leap from basketball court to rap fame with Def Jam Records is nothing short of intriguing. We discuss how his viral hit might just outshine his brothers' basketball careers, as we shift gears into the hip-hop scene with Logic's "Not a Game," featuring Lucy Rose.

Nostalgia sweeps over us as Franz Ferdinand reemerges with "Audacious," and we revisit Deep Blue Something’s "Breakfast at Tiffany's," pondering the nature of one-hit wonders.

SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s dynamic chemistry also gets its deserved spotlight, with anticipation for their joint performance on the big stage. Join us for a captivating blend of new discoveries, heartfelt reflections, and a touch of nostalgic charm.

Speaker 1:

welcome back to another super awesome mix. My name is matt. Sit home alongside my co-host and co-founder of super awesome mix, sam abusalbi sam. How we doing this week doing really well.

Speaker 2:

um, although, like I mentioned on the last episode, every time I say I'm doing well, I'm reminded of the state of the world. I'm like, oh right, everyone keeps talking about how what a long January it's been. So I hope everyone listening is doing okay and staying safe and, you know, at least enjoying some of the new music that's starting to pour in right, like there's always that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean there's no doubt it's been a crazy start to the year in a lot of parts of the country. So, yes, we wish all our listeners well, wherever you are, that whatever's going on in your world, there's some light at the end of the tunnel coming quickly, and hopefully we can provide that for you here on the show with a little new music from really December January. This is always kind of a bridge episode for us.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yeah, exactly. We have to like catch up from December, since we do our best of at the end of the year. If you haven't listened to that already, that one was a good one. I'm still listening to a lot of those songs. There was some good music in 2024. So we'll see how 2025 matches up on that front, agreed, agreed.

Speaker 1:

And this is also an interesting one because, you know, this isn't like necessarily prime time for people to release music. So I think it's always fun because I always find some like kind of new random artists along the way. So right now I think I think we got a little bit of that today. Now we'll just start off with your pick, let's get into it. The first pick it is Come Apart by the Bluestones.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, there's going to be some recognizable names if you're a long-time listener here. Bluestones is a band I personally discovered a couple years ago and have been really enjoying their sound. They're like a harder Black Keys, I'd say, especially after. Like the last Black Keys album, as we talked about, sounds like a Beck album with, with some Black Keys players right right so like.

Speaker 2:

This is just a more like harder rock plus bluesy sound and I'm really enjoying it. Um, there's so far been three singles off of the new upcoming album. At the time of this recording I haven't had them on repeat. I really love the. You know we're talking about all of us dealing with stuff right now. I love the opening lines where he says my generational trauma is I don't give a blank, I can't connect anymore, I don't see the point. And you know, I feel to some degree we can all kind of feel that at some point in our lives where you're just kind of like you know what, like I just can't anymore.

Speaker 1:

I just can't yeah. The title has come apart, so I do think that's appropriate here, right, Right, right.

Speaker 2:

Like California is on fire, in Florida it's snowing.

Speaker 1:

I just can't anymore, you know. But I do like the fact I kind of made this a candidate for a future if we did another version of the strut mix, that we did the strut mixtape, because I love kind of the rhythm of this song and then he does kind of talk about like going to war and like kind of stepping up to whatever it is going on, even though it's kind of like I'm coming apart. I don't know there was, there was sort of an it. Did you get that like sort of an air of resilience to this?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, I agree with that Definitely. But no, I love the idea of putting it on like a strut mix again, because it does have that energy. I I think that's probably why I really enjoy it. I need that in my life right now. Um, speaking of just like fun things or other things I need in my life, this fun song really like made me smile. I enjoyed it.

Speaker 1:

This one is swipe, swipe, swipe by nikki the unicorn so I was immediately drawn in by the name of the artist, nikki the Unicorn right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and then this song starts and I listened to most of her new album and it's actually pretty fun, kind of fun, like sort of pop music. This is pretty clearly about a dating app and kind of operating through that and meeting people that way and not taking things too seriously and kind of, you know, operating through that and meeting people that way and you know, not taking things too seriously and I don't know, I just thought it was a really kind of fun song and kind of clever.

Speaker 1:

I mean I'm too old to have ever been on a dating app, so I only know stories of them and so I can't necessarily relate directly, but she makes it sound like fun. Maybe it's miserable, I mean you could let me know, but I don't know. It's just sort of interesting to hear this take on it.

Speaker 2:

I was going to say count yourself lucky that you were past the dating app scene, because I think in theory it sounds fun. Because I think in theory it sounds fun, in practice it's like a miserable hell that you have to endure until you find someone that isn't just kind of a psychopath on there.

Speaker 1:

Well and I imagine it's harder for women because it's like I mean guys, it's like I'm sure they're just trying to match with whomever. So I'm sure most women on these dating apps it's like, okay, you have 300 matches. And then if you're a guy, it's like you've got two and it's like, okay, nah, I'm going to pass on both of these.

Speaker 2:

Right, but shout out to Bumble, cause I actually met my wife on Bumble, so you know we're one of those success stories yeah, which is great um.

Speaker 1:

We should get them as a sponsor. Hey, bumble we've got a great story to tell you yeah, a super awesome match, if you will. There's something there. We're going to talk about this offline after the show, but I think we got something there, yeah I agree, I think so.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, this is a very cute song. Um, definitely you know I. I love the idea. I think she says very cute song. Um, definitely, you know I. I love the idea.

Speaker 2:

I think she says like the uh, chasing notifications, you know, just like waiting for that because that is very much the game like whenever I was in peak dating app mode, like you're just waiting for your phone to ping to tell you you got a match and you're curious like, oh, who is it? You know, in my case, like who of the three million people did I swipe on come? On three million yeah, just they should sell you a mega swipe. You know, like in the. You live in new york city, just go ahead and swipe. Yes, on on every, every person here. See what happens oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome. All right, bumble, look, just just wait, we'll be calling you um. Your next pick and this is probably someone people have definitely heard of it is rush mirror by mumford and sons yeah, shout out to one of our longtime listeners for sending these next two song recommendations.

Speaker 2:

Thank you much. Um. So mumford and Sons, uh, has a new album coming out. You know this is a single off of it. This sounds to me like a just a perfect Mumford and Sons song. You know, like it's got the fast banjo going. Um, like I just really enjoy the sound of it again. Like in my mind I think that was the album was called Wild or something that came out a couple years ago. That just sounded a little more subdued from them. And then this one just seems like they're just going right back to their core sound, which I love. I also really love. Do you think that at any point they're like, hey guys, what if we just ditch the banjo? I feel like they're just bound to the banjo now. They could never not have it as part of some of their songs. That's their thing. It's become a thing for them. They're locked in.

Speaker 1:

It really has. I mean, my first note on this is this sounds exactly like a Mumford Sons song. This is just quintessential Mumford Sons, which, as we've talked about before with Imagine Dragons, this isn't a bad thing, right? Yeah, it works. You have a good sound and you're right, it's got that banjo and it's got to be a challenge and I would love to talk to a banjo player about this but making the banjo sound different than it does has got to be a challenge.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Because, for an untrained ear, I think there's a lot of sameness to the banjo and I know we have a ton of banjo players listening right now who are throwing their phone against the wall because I gave such an ignorant opinion. But please hit us up at Super Awesome Mix and I would just love to have that conversation to kind of walk through the different, the walk through the different sounds of the banjo, because I think it does. I don't know, maybe that's just me, sam, but I feel like there's a little sameness to it.

Speaker 2:

I agree, yeah, it does kind of all blend together. But yeah, we might just not have, you know, well-trained ears. You know we need like the equivalent of a sommelier for banjo music. This is sommelier for for banjo music. This is your banjo sommelier. Yes, yeah, that could make for a great instagram handle actually, if that banjo sommelier that is if that's not taken somebody out there, get on it.

Speaker 1:

Okay, you got two followers. You got two followers right here we'll be there first in line.

Speaker 2:

Um, all right, let's go on to your next pick, which, funny enough, I could have picked this song because it just sounds like something I would have put on here, but it is Breakerbox by Michigander.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so Michigander. They are a band from Michigan and they center around Jason Singer.

Speaker 1:

He is a multi-instrumentalist and a singer-songwriter. He's pretty amazing, so obviously when they tour, they've got other people with them. But this is pretty much all sort of Jason Singer's project. He's been around since 2014,. But I've only started to hear his music in the last few months. It's been on SiriusXMm.

Speaker 1:

He's had some songs on there and, um, I think this one is a pretty good example of his sound and his songwriting. It's. It's pretty clever, you know, like sort of the tagline because you don't have the power and you're just a breaker box like. So it's kind of okay, you know that that's. That's well done, I think, uh, from a songwriting perspective, and I'm sure all the electricians out there appreciate the shout out. But yeah, I mean I'm kind of excited that he's been around for a few years because I think I could get into a lot of his songs. There's a couple others. I'm blanking on the titles right now, but there's a couple others that I've heard on Sirius recently and yeah, no, I think there's a lot of upside potential here with Michigander yeah, I agree that I've started listening to them, um, or to him, like, a couple of years ago and like.

Speaker 2:

There's definitely a handful of songs that, um, the reason I said it sounds like something I could have picked is because they're he kind of like, has like things that are a little bit like I don't know, I don't know how to describe it, but they, they speak to me, let's just put it that way. Like I think the, the song that comes to mind is let down, um, on an album it was an EP release called everything will be okay eventually, and maybe that's what speaks to me. More is just that, that mindset everything will be okay eventually.

Speaker 2:

So I really like it, and I like this song too. I also really liked the line that he keeps singing like that he'd be rich based on the number of times he's upset this person.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yes, yes, he'd be the richest person in the world, yeah, which I think we all have people in our lives like that that we could probably yes, yeah yeah, say that about. Um, okay, well, speaking of sort of redundancy, uh, your next pick track five. It is same old song by the lumineers yeah, so.

Speaker 2:

So again, shout out to Dad03Girls. We've mentioned his Instagram name many a times on this show. Long time listener sends in some great recommendations, so Lumineers also have a new album coming up. I really liked this song. I liked it because I felt like it was a good storytelling song. You know, they're singing about just kind of this, honestly, like these like dark and sad lyrics, but they sing it in such a high energetic way that you can just like bop along to this if you're ignoring the lyrics. But then you realize that they're talking about some like not very happy things which, again, that also is like a favorite of mine, you know. But yeah, just the same old song from the Lumineers and so it's a clever little song title there for their next album.

Speaker 1:

Well, but I think this one also sounded different. You know, whereas last song, like the last pick you had, that's very much a Mumford and Sons song, right Right. In this case I was like expecting kind of one thing. And then obviously the vocals are the vocals right, Like they're going to sound similar, but it had kind of a different tone to it and I don't know. I thought it was really well done, just the description and this person's clearly kind of in a rut, right. That same old song. You know, they're just doing the same thing over and over. They don't seem to be very happy about it. So I don't know. I like the way it was written, I like it how it kind of sounded a little differently than a lot of Lumineers song, and I thought it was appropriate for the start of a year too, because I think we all kind of feel that way, sort of reflecting back on the years past, where it's like I can't keep doing the same things.

Speaker 2:

Right, yes, yeah, exactly. That's a good way of putting that. All right. Track number six here. This is Tweaker by Jello.

Speaker 1:

All right, sam, I was just on what Are you Listening To the season premiere this week and I talked about this song and I was so excited about it though I wanted to bring it to the new music mix as well. Um, I'll just start off by asking, sam are you familiar with the Ball Brothers from Southern California, the basketball playing Ball Brothers? I?

Speaker 1:

am not, no, okay. Okay. So these are three brothers from Southern California. Okay, the oldest is Lonzo, middle child liangelo, and youngest is lamello. Okay, all had amazing basketball, high school basketball careers and they're they kind of became well known because their father, lavar ball, became kind of a media sensation, talking about how great his sons are and how great they are going to be, and just really talking about got, you know, started his own brand of shoes, which which kind of caused some problems and there might have been a dusting of fraud, but let's not focus on that.

Speaker 1:

Okay, lonzo, he's the oldest. He was the second pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Lakers. Currently plays for the Bulls. He's made north of $100 million in his career. Okay, wow, lomelo is the youngest. He was drafted third overall in the 2020 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He still plays for them and just started a five-year $200 million contract, right, and he's going to make the all-star team Like. He's a very popular player as well as very good player.

Speaker 1:

Then there's middle brother, liangelo. Okay, now, liangelo has been on a couple of rosters for like 10 day contracts, meaning, like in the nba, you could sign with the team for literally 10 days and it's usually like they've got some injuries in the middle of the year and you're just sort of filling a roster spot just in case, like the ultimate sort of in case in case of emergency, break glass type thing. Okay, right, he has never actually played an nba game and currently plays for a Mexican professional basketball team. Okay Well, liangelo, better known as Jello in this case, decided I'm going to put out a. I'm going to put out a song. Okay, I'm going to. I'm going to put out a rap song. I don't know how long he's been working on this, but it came out this month and it's just gone viral, like just gone everywhere to where he is now signed to a recording contract with def jam records.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome, and so you know you got these three brothers. Um, they've all been uber successful. So lavar ball, I mean, for all his bluster, was very much proven, right. Okay, um, this isn't a song that would necessarily keep in the rotation on a regular basis, right, just because, like I mean, anyone who's listened to the show for a long time knows that it's a lot of Bruce and a lot of, like you know, things adjacent to Bruce and maybe some country music. But I actually really enjoyed this one, like it was. Really. I thought it was really well done. I was really enjoyed this one, like it was. Really I thought it was really well done. I was really impressed and I was also just blown away. That kind of middle brother who from a basketball standpoint has been sort of an off afterthought, is now probably, like globally more famous than his two other brothers.

Speaker 2:

Right, no, that's incredible. Yeah, what a story. That's awesome. I did not know any of that, so, thank you. And I actually also enjoyed this song and would have would put this on like a strut style mix as well, just because it has that kind of confidence, you know, stand tall, shoulders back, vibe to it, and I really liked it. And, of course, I like the line here and I started from the bottom, just like you, but I was harder, which I really like you. You know, just this sense of like. Hey, I also like worked my way here and I work even harder than you, which I really like that attitude all right.

Speaker 1:

So your next pick staying in the hip-hop world.

Speaker 2:

We've got not a game by logic featuring lucy rose yeah, logic is like, continue to make an appearance in my, in my like music rotation. Um, I'll go like on and off with him and he's got this little EP release, aquarius, and I've been really enjoying it and this one is my favorite one off of it. I like this one especially just because I like the female vocals on the track alongside him. So Lucy Rose does a great job countering his voice and his rap.

Speaker 2:

But I just think that this is such a smooth sounding, kind of like hip-hop track and you know, like, with the way that kind of hip-hop and rap has been going um and like mumblecore and like all this other you know new style, I I really like and am drawn to kind of this style again. Um, so I I really enjoyed this track and have just been it's again. It's one that I just like to put on and kind of just like vibe to it. You know it's an easy one to do that too. So you know, right now I'm in I'm in definitely a Logic era and I enjoy this release a lot yeah, this was a really cool song.

Speaker 1:

I wasn't familiar with Lucy Rose, but I mean she's an English singer-songwriter and so it's just kind of an interesting you know pair up with Logic's, just kind of an interesting you know pair up with Logic here and kind of just a hardcore rap. And then you go right to kind of her vocals. You know reminded me a little bit of you know the song Stand just from the standpoint of like that was Eminem and Dido like working together, right.

Speaker 1:

And it was just such an interesting sort of dichotomy there. So yeah, I mean really really well done here. And you know, you kind of get a little bit of a twofer because you can kind of get into Logic's new album but maybe also discover Lucy Rose in the process. So yeah, really well done.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, awesome, yeah, I love those collaborations like that. All right, this one is a throwback for me because I had not heard this artist's name in a long time, but I'm really happy. Actually, the next two, really, that's true.

Speaker 1:

So track number eight is Audacious, by Franz Ferdinand rock band they're best known for the song take me out, which is probably about 20 years old now, which sounds weird to say, but that one still gets a lot of radio airplay. They probably are considered a one-hit wonder, right, and admittedly I haven't necessarily kept up with them. But this song kind of popped up as something new and uh, I really kind of I just loved it and and just the more I listened to it you know, obviously they're, uh, they're scottish, so it had kind of a just loved it and just the more I listened to it you know, obviously they're they're Scottish, so it had kind of a Brit pop feel to it. I love how it speeds up and slows down at different times. It kind of reminded me of, you know, elo's Mr Blue Sky, if you're familiar with that one at all.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah and yeah, it just it just was a really cool song. Yeah and yeah, it just it just was a really cool song. Like it got me really excited to sort of rediscover this band and kind of go yeah, let's go back to that album you know from 20 years ago, but also just kind of listen to more of their new stuff and see what they're up to. So just a really pleasant surprise here.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I agree, I really like this one and in fact when he got into the chorus it almost like a david bowie track, like it. It like really took me to, yeah, to like some of his stuff in the 70s and 80s. Um, and you know, it's very likely they were inspired by him, because I mean, who hasn't been inspired by bowie in the music industry? He was, he was certainly a trailblazer there, but yeah, I really like this track. Uh, it was nice to be brought back to to franz ferdinand because I definitely listened to take me out and there were a couple of other songs that listened to them or by them, but never really dove into the full artist library there. So be interested to see the new album.

Speaker 1:

All right, your next pick, track nine. This is 30 for 30 by SZA with Kendrick Lamar. Yeah, I promise I won't just keep putting Kendrick Lamar on every mix, or maybe I will you know, maybe I'm just winning if he keeps coming out with new music like yeah, the harm yeah, yeah, and you know I'm just trying to get him on the show one day um, I feel like that would be our jello moment.

Speaker 2:

You know, we just have Kendrick Lamar on this, on super awesome mix, and he picks nothing but Springsteen and we're like, wow, I feel like that would be our Jell-O moment. You know, we just have Kendrick Lamar on Super Awesome Mix.

Speaker 1:

And he picks nothing but Springsteen and we're like wow.

Speaker 2:

Kendrick, are we best friends, Like what?

Speaker 1:

just happened.

Speaker 2:

I would love for that to happen. I'd be so shocked, you know. Can you imagine like you and I are getting really excited? He's working on his mix. We get the email in in and it's just 12 bruce songs. I'm just like, oh my god, why is this happening to me? It's like my, my music idol right now and I have to just talk about bruce for 12 songs we're doing yeah, we're doing deep dives and sav.

Speaker 1:

You're just going I. I thought it was pretty good sitting back right. I really like how we told a story in this one sounds like the character is really going through something in this one right man. Being a working man, it's hard really nine, nine, all the way to five, huh A whole eight hours. Okay.

Speaker 2:

Oh gosh, but yes, okay. So anyway, 30 for 30. Sza has a new album that came out, I think, just at the end of the year, last year. You know this is their eighth collaboration together and we're talking about collaborations that work really well. I think this works very well. So he's, you know, obviously the the featured spot on her song and album. But again, I just really like this, the feel of this song. Um, you know another one that's kind of easy to listen to and they're both kind of just like talking through some feelings and and thing experiences. But, um, the thing that made me laugh is she sings. Both of them have parts where they say chat and then they like say a, like a prompt, like a question, and I've gotten so used to using chat gbt and people referring to chat gbt as chat.

Speaker 2:

This, you know, makes sense, um, and so I thought these were all like prompts that you would ask chat gbt and I was very confused by the questions that she was posing to them like I don't think chat gbt is going to help you there, but it turns out it's um, it's like basically there is uh, someone who does like a like live feeds or, you know, like his audiences. He will refer to his audience as as chat, like he's going to ask the kind of the audience in the chat room their opinion.

Speaker 1:

So that's what she's thinking here gotcha, gotcha, although you should feed those into chat gptT.

Speaker 2:

I really want to.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think that would be kind of interesting.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, I like this one. At first it had a real like 90s R&B sort of feel to it, which I thought was really cool. They just announced SZA would be appearing at the big game halftime show with Kendrick Lamar. Nice and at first I was like, well, maybe we'll hear this one. And then, about 30 seconds in, I thought we're not going to play this one at halftime. No, unless we heavily edit what's going on in this song Right, Like it just it would be unrecognizable.

Speaker 1:

Unrecognizable. Yeah, we're just going to play the beat, yeah. So I don't know if we'll be hearing this one at halftime, but we are going to hear this duo. So that's really exciting and I think if you just kept including Kendrick Lamar all the way through the big game I don't know if anyone's going to argue with that, sam Wonderful, yes, okay, great, all right, let's go to your next pick here.

Speaker 2:

And yeah, another throwback, and another one that I thought honestly was a one-hit wonder, hit wonder. So this is great, but this is will you wait by deep blue something yeah, hey, 90s music fans.

Speaker 1:

okay, what about breakfast at tiffany's? Yes, I think I remember the song and, as I recall, I recall we all kind of liked it okay, um, but I imagine most of you haven't heard of deep blue something since then. Thank you, thank you. Um, they are dallas's own, okay, so Dallas band.

Speaker 1:

But this one almost sounds at the beginning and I'm going to do another 90s throwback here it kind of reminded me of Better Than this, was?

Speaker 1:

It sounded great, like you know, really cool, like kind of poppy song, and I just love the thought here that it's like I just need a minute, right, like I just you know we started off this mix with come apart and just kind of falling apart. And this one, I mean, there's the lines you say, there's feelings I never show, but I feel deep inside. If you say one more word my head will explode. It's like I just need you to stop talking. Just give me a minute. So I don't know. I just love that from a songwriting perspective because the more I thought about it, the more I was like you know, you hear about like breakup songs and songs about things being really bad, and this is less of that and more just like give me a minute here, which I thought, yeah, probably appropriate for the start of 2025, but also just in general. I think it's a cool, cool thing thematically to see and it's here in a song.

Speaker 2:

I agree. Yeah, that's like something that we don't get too much. Um, you know it's. It's very typically like you said, like come back to me or like, oh, that's, you know I, you know I'm so sad, but never just like, hey, pause, you know, like I just need, I just need you to wait, so that's great. But yeah, I was really happy with the song and I really had no idea that they had more than than that one song. So this is awesome.

Speaker 1:

All right, speaking of someone who definitely has more than one song, track 11, your pick. It is Voy a Llamarte PAPR. I don't know if you pronounce those or not, but did the best I could there with the Spanish. It is Bad Bunny.

Speaker 2:

So obviously, you know, puerto Rico is the PR there, and so this is a an album that is, honestly, to my understanding, just a great dance album. I don't know, I'm not following along the lyrics. I don't really speak Spanish. I speak very conversational Spanish, though not good enough to listen to and understand everything that's being sung. But you know, looking at the lyrics translated here, basically this is like kind of a hey, I met someone. Let's go back to puerto rico. I'm gonna give you a good time. We're gonna dance like we're gonna forget our troubles. You know, no one's getting married here, like we're just here to have fun. Um, and you know, speaking of dating apps, there's a line here. Will he sings I'll take you to puerto rico for the whole weekend. After me, you'll delete tinder, um, which is a great line and he'll download bumble, our new sponsor bumble.

Speaker 1:

Get your super awesome match at bumble.

Speaker 2:

Okay, anyway, go on we'll send an invoice to bumble for that and see if it works. Be like yeah, didn't, didn't your team tell you that you are sponsoring our show? Now, it's weird that'll be thirty thousand dollars, um, but yeah, great, great dance track, as always from bad bunny.

Speaker 1:

I mean, this guy is currently peaking for sure, um, and, and this is what he does best what's what's great about this and I translate the lyrics as well like total party song, like we're gonna have a great time. We're gonna do this right there. Every time I see Bunny like he'll show up at like NBA games, he'll just be on the sideline, like he's the. He seems like the most mellow individual ever Right, and so it's just funny to hear these songs where it's just like we're just going to party, like for the whole weekend, for a whole week whatever, and just going crazy, when it just seems like he's at a pretty, pretty steady level at all times maybe his definition of parting.

Speaker 2:

He's like we'll play some uno, we'll watch breakfast at tiffany's have you seen this movie?

Speaker 1:

it's really it's kind of older, but it's pretty good. It holds up.

Speaker 2:

It holds up all right, and so with that, let's round out this mix. Your last pick, track number 12 it is room on your shoulder by adam melchor and mount joy yeah, I think most people have heard of mount joy.

Speaker 1:

I mean, I think they've made appearance on the mix before. Yeah, um, adam melcord, not as familiar, um, then when I looked him up he's only 29, so probably new to a lot of people. Um, but you know, he's got a great voice. I think he really does a great job here with mount joy. Um, I think this is a really sweet song. I love the simplicity of it, kind of a relationship song, but just like, yeah, it's kind of, I just like how they put it when it's like, hey, maybe we'll sort of get back together. Is there any room on your shoulder right? Just sort of this. Yeah, sort of inching in a little bit, nothing like I don't know. I just thought that was really kind of nicely done in that it wasn't overly dramatic or emotional, but there's clearly still a connection and maybe we can figure this out, type thing. So, yeah, I don't know, and I again, I just I like the sound of this, of course, but yeah, just lyrically, I thought it was really well done.

Speaker 2:

I agree. Yeah, I loved the. You know I love the vocals of Mount Joy. I had not heard of Adam yet, but I think he does a great job, you know being a counter to them. And yeah, the lyrics are very sweet in that regard of just like hoping that something can come through, Like I love the line feels like growing gardens from cement, you know, like where we've seen before where plants and flowers can make their way through the cracks in the cement. Plants and flowers can make their way through the cracks in the cement and I think that that's exactly like what he's trying to describe. It's just great imagery. Sometimes you feel like there's like a wall of cement and nothing's going to break through, but then here you go, A flower has sprouted and has made its way through, and I think that sometimes relationships do feel like that, that like maybe you can still find a way to have that flowering moment. So this is a very nice song and a very mellow one to round out the mix.

Speaker 1:

All right, well, there you have it, folks, your first new music mix of 2025. Sam and I have got plenty of mixes to work on, and so we'll get to work on those. So, for Sam, this is Matt, and we'll see you next time.
