Super Awesome Mix
Gratitude Anthems: From Sly To Snoop And Diana Ross
Sam is back! He and Matt reunite just in time for Thanksgiving to give everyone a mix of songs featuring the term Thank You.
We kick off with Sly’s Thank You and the relief of being yourself again, then trace how Dido’s gentle melody got flipped into Eminem’s Stan without erasing its original warmth. Andrew Gold’s Thank You for Being a Friend sparks a riff on friendship rituals, party etiquette, and why the Golden Girls hook lives rent-free in our heads. DJ Khaled and Big Sean bring gratitude to ambition, reminding us that success without appreciation rings hollow. Boyz II Men drop us into a 90s harmony cocoon, proving that a simple refrain can feel like community.
The mix widens with Logic’s Thank You, closing on real fan voicemails from around the globe—a living map of music’s connective tissue. Alanis Morissette’s Thank U honors letting go and landing; Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre rework Sly’s groove into a modern head-nod; Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats turn repetition into affirmation. Diana Ross glows with a love that adds to an already good life, pushing back on the myth that gratitude only comes from struggle. And we sign off with Moana’s You’re Welcome, a playful reminder to accept appreciation with grace.

Welcome back to another super awesome mix. My name is Matt Sitholm, alongside my co-host and co-founder. He's back, ladies and gentlemen, Sam Abusalbi. Sam, welcome back to the show.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you so much. And before I get going with this, uh, a very appropriately named thank you mix, I do want to thank Jen for filling in for me while I was gone. Um I can only imagine how terrible the show would be if it was just Matt interviewing himself making mixes. Um I just don't think anyone would want to listen to that.
SPEAKER_01:I would do different voices. Right. Okay. It would be like the old Paul Harvey radio show where I'm just, yeah, like I'd okay, we've got a caller in Joliet, Illinois. All right.
SPEAKER_00:All right. I might actually have listened to that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, we'll we'll do a test run. We'll do a test run. It may not be all bad.
SPEAKER_00:But yes, I am back. Um, my little one now is almost three months old, which is amazing. The time has just flown by. Um, and so I really appreciate Jen helping out while I have just been in pure babyland. I was uh telling Matt I apologize to all of our listeners here if I randomly start talking in a baby voice, you know, like, oh, what a great song. That's such a great song. Because that's just been my life recently.
SPEAKER_01:That will happen when you have kids. You just start all the conversations run together. Time means nothing, everything, yeah, all of that will happen. Um, but yes, thank you to Jen for filling in for a little bit, and appropriate enough. This is a uh, you know, Thanksgiving's right around the corner. You've got so much to be thankful for this year. And so we put together a mix of songs, uh, featuring the word thank you. So that's what that's what this is all about. Um, and I think we did a pretty good job. This one's uh it puts you in a really good mood listening to this and hearing thank you so often.
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely, yeah. And it's kind of amazing. Every single song, save for one for a special reason, is literally titled thank you. Um, so that's pretty awesome. Um, so you know, we we will repeat the title as we go through it, but you won't really be surprised. But the first song here is actually Matt's pick, and it is thank you. And this is by Sly and the Family Stone.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, is there a better way to start this kind of mix? I mean, just the opening note to this one, just like all of Sly and the Family Stones music, just so funky and fun, and and just I mean, it's just awesome. And and if this sounds familiar to people of a certain age, this was sampled for uh on a Jana Jackson monster hit called Rhythm Nation. So that's where you might recognize this one. But yeah, I I love this one because it's not just thank you for something generic, it's really, it's really specific. It's like for letting me be myself again. And uh, I think we've all had that situation where maybe you kind of have to act a certain way in a certain audience or in a certain environment, and uh it just feels good to just kind of get back to to be in yourself.
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely, yeah. I I wrote that this was an instantly recognizable song, so great, and I absolutely love that message of um just yeah, you know, it's so special to be able to hang out with people where you don't feel like you have to act a certain way. And I realize like that's something that's really amazing when you find a good friend or you find a great partner, or even sometimes your family, like you can just the magic of just letting you be you is so wonderful. Um, and not having to feel like you gotta put up a certain act or anything like we often do at work or in other like environments. So this is great. Um, so it is really nice to say thank you to people um in your life where you feel like you can just be yourself with them. I think that's a wonderful thing.
SPEAKER_01:I love the caveat you you added there, and sometimes your family. Yes. When the holidays approaching, everyone just fight through it if you've got that situation. All right, you're gonna be okay. Yeah, exactly. All right, your first pick, uh, and this was a really big hit in its time. This is Thank You by Dido.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, um, so my first memory of a lot of people probably think of the MM song Stan, uh, which sampled this, of course, with like you can almost hear the scribbles, you know, over the this track in your mind if you've listened to that song a bunch. Um, but my first go-to memory is actually a scene from Scrubs where um JD is coming over and to like Elliot's apartment, he doesn't realize that his like brother is there yet, um, and that they had been getting together, and like Dido was playing in the background, and this song was playing. And he was like, Oh, my if my heart could write songs, they'd write songs like these. And I love that line because I just think that sums up this song, it's wonderful. Um, and it's just a funny little memory I have. But it's a it's a very lovely song, you know. She sings here, you know, I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life. Oh, just to be with you is having the best day of my life. And so I think that's really special. It's a very lovely, heartfelt song. And again, I think if there's people in your life where just simply the act of hanging out with them, no matter what you're doing, uh brings you so much joy, it's worth saying thank you to them because that is also a really special gift and something to be grateful for.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, totally agree with all of that. I I the thought I had here is there's gotta be, and this maybe is a mix idea, but like, how about the range between this sweet song and then the song Stan that samples it? Right? Like the range between the original song and the song that sampled it, I think, is pretty wide here.
SPEAKER_00:That's that's very true, yeah. Yeah, maybe don't thank someone so obsessively that you uh That's right, that's right.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, that started as a really sweet sentiment, right? That he was just thanking him and then Stan took a different direction. But yeah, anyway.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Oh goodness. All right, well, um, this next one has a slightly longer title, and this one is specifically Thank You for Being a Friend by Andrew Gold.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, quick, name another Andrew Gold song, Sam.
unknown:Go.
SPEAKER_01:I cannot. No, man, got him, got him. Oh, he's losing a step now that he's a father. Um, okay. Uh this is uh you'll know this song. You may not know Andrew Gold. You may not immediately recognize the title, but the second this one starts, you know it because it was used as the theme song to Golden Girls. Okay. And uh I know there's a lot of big Golden Girls fans out there. Um, but they probably didn't know that this song clocks in at about four and a half minutes. So um it's something where you realize like the 30 to 45 second version that you're in the TV theme is like, oh, this is great. What a great song. But man, he gets a three and a half minutes, and I'm like, we could wrap this up at any time.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, he's not getting a thank you for being concise here.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, maybe we could thank the producer for uh maybe doing his job and shortening this up a little bit. Okay. I love that. Yeah. Uh but this one, you're right. It's a great sentiment. It's uh this is why this song is so timeless that I think it probably added to the I think it added to the success of Golden Girls because people immediately recognize this theme song, and I think people use it all the time, and uh, you know, it is just a really easy sentiment. Thank you for being a friend. I mean, that's what we all want. We want great friends, you need great friends, and uh, I think this is a great summation of that.
SPEAKER_00:I I totally agree. Um, what's funny is I was reading through the lyrics, which again is like not something I would really do for a TV show themed song. So this is my first pass through it. Um, but one of the lines here is like if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew, you would see the biggest gift would be from me, and the card attached would say thank you for being a friend. And for whatever reason, I read it as the the gift itself is only the card saying thank you for being a friend. And I thought, like, wow, I would hate that as a gift only. Like, if you're gonna come to my party, like, don't just bring a card. Unless there's cash in that card, I I'm not gonna accept a card that just says thank you for being a friend. I'm like, we're done being friends, you should know better.
SPEAKER_01:Especially if it's the biggest gift and therefore it's one of those comically oversized cards.
SPEAKER_00:And then it's just that, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Well, what am I supposed to do with this? I can't I can't put it in a drawer.
unknown:Right.
SPEAKER_00:Like, am I supposed to display this now?
SPEAKER_01:Like, I'm gonna have this card forever. It's a statute of limitations on how long. Oh no. No, Andrew's a great friend. You see the giant card he made me?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that's a burden. That's a burden. I don't want that as a gift. Don't send me that.
SPEAKER_01:Good, yeah, good tip. It's gift giving season, okay? You gotta know what Sam wants.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01:All right, your next pick. Uh, this is Thank You by DJ Khaled, featuring Big Sean.
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely, good old DJ Khaled. Um, you always know it's one of his songs. He lets you know pretty quickly, often pretty quickly. Um, and of course, this features Big Sean, who is great. Uh, absolutely love listening to his rap. He's so talented. But yeah, I mean, this is so fun um in terms of just like a great gratitude song. I actually think DJ Khaled is pretty good at being grateful in his music. I feel like that's like a vibe that comes through often in his songs. Um and then I really like this thing, uh, this line here, but it's uh I know some people only taste of success is the bite that they take out of yours. My Gigi told me, God laugh at you when you make plans, the type of wisdom that made us men, plus trying to thank everybody who helped us along the way is like trying to name every single member of the Wu Tang clan, which is a great little deep cut line because there's nine members, and I don't know if you can name all of them. I can't. I could not, there's no way. Um, but there's a lot of them, which is just a great little line there. Because yeah, I don't think anyone, even maybe the members themselves, like they're gonna leave someone out, right? Like they're going like, well, there's old dirty bastard, there's method manager, and uh gosh, who else was I? That's what I meant.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I wonder that is funny if they could name all the members that have come through there for at some point it's like, wait, that would get he was he officially in the band, or was he like just here one day?
SPEAKER_00:Exactly. Yeah, I love it.
SPEAKER_01:Uh yeah, I'm with you. I was not sure who was singing this, and then right off the bat, DJ Khaled reminded me that it was him. Um I love once again, he's first on the writing credits, but all you hear is Big Sean throughout the song. Um But this is a great sentiment because it is all about like no one's truly successful without gratitude. And that's something uh I try to uh you will you will once again find yourself someday with your with your child uh trying to remind him that he should probably be more grateful for what he has than complain about what's not there because that's what I find myself doing with my kids now exactly.
SPEAKER_00:Oh gosh. Um all right. This next one is an amazing throwback sound, and this is thank you by boys to men.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I think I mentioned this on the fall mix that we did earlier this year that there was this era of songs in the early 90s where we had a series of like not, I wouldn't call them boy bands, but they were all men.
unknown:Right.
SPEAKER_01:But they could just flat out sing, right? And all of it started with boys to men. Like boys to men came around with Motown Philly, and they were really successful, and those guys were just amazing uh you know, vocalists, and and they're still out there now, they're still touring. Um, but yeah, it all started with them, and this is um just a good, I think it's emblematic of that, but also a great theme. It's one of their later albums, but it was still kind of a hit song for them. I don't think not as big as some of their early stuff, but but it was still out there quite a bit. Um and yeah, I I think it was it was great because it's just they're just showing their appreciation. You could tell there are a few albums into their career now, and um, I think it's just an appropriate song for where they were, but just for anybody. I think it's good to take some time and just say thank you to the people who stuck with you through tougher times.
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely, yeah. I I really like the message. Um, I love the time capsule of this song. You know, it's like 90s, it's like just one of the peak 90s moments, as you were saying. Like there was definitely like this run of this like a cappella sound. Um, and you know, I again I want to call out the lyrics that are accurate online of the da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da, you know, there's like a whole section.
SPEAKER_01:You love that.
SPEAKER_00:I I love it, yeah. Um, but it's so catchy, it's a very catchy song, and it's a very nice song, and it just has like a nice warm and cozy feel whenever they're singing. I think this works so great as an a cappella song. So I really enjoy it being done that way, and I can't imagine it any other way, to be honest.
SPEAKER_01:All right, your next pick. We've got thank you, and this is by Logic, featuring Lucy Rose and the Rat Pack.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I've been like on such a logic kick recently still. Uh, I think I've mentioned that a couple times this year, but the more that I'm diving into like his discography, the more I'm obsessed with it. Um, so this is one that came up on on um YS4, uh, which is like Young Sinatra. Um, he's got like a whole Young Sinatra uh kind of like theme for many of his albums. But what I think this one is really cool is that it ends with a bunch of voicemails that people left. And they're like real voicemails. They did this like Twitter promotion of being like, call this number, leave a voicemail, and like we'll, you know, like a gratitude message and we'll put you on this track. And so the song looks like it's really long. I think it's like eight or nine minutes long, but like most of it is just basically ending with um all these voicemails that people left from all around the world and they're announcing where they're from. And I just think that's so cool. I just I I love that kind of bringing in everyone, and it's just a good reminder that music is global and it's like cross-cultural, and it can just bring all these different people together because here's all these different people from all walks of life that are all listening to this song and all like know this artist. Um, and here they are like coming together with this at least one common thread that binds all of them. So I just think that's a really cool reminder. And as we go into gratitude season and and Thanksgiving and everything, I think it's also important to remind ourselves that there's always something in common, you know, like we can usually find something that we can um form a bridge with one another. And there's probably at least, you know, there's probably more than you imagine is a better way of saying that. So I just really love the song and I love the way it ends. And I've just been obsessed with Logic's uh albums recently. So that's this song.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, that's a uh that's a great point you made there at the end that I think sometimes people dread the holidays because oh, their family members are gonna talk about politics or whatever, and why do we have to get into this? But it's like really, it's like, all right, that's just one aspect of this person. And I'm sure if you get to talking about, you know, how you raise your kids or what they're doing in school or sports, you you could probably have just a fine conversation and just move on with your lives, right? But yeah, but yeah, we do try to try to cling to that discord sometimes. So no, um I I I agree with you on the on the format of the song, I just thought it was really unique. I thought, you know, a seven and a half minute song or however long this song is, I was like, man, okay. And then you start to hear the device with the call-in, and I was like, Am I gonna get sick of this? But it because it was such a unique voice and you didn't know who was coming up next, right? Right, it it definitely works just as it goes from from collar to caller. So yeah, I I thought that was awesome and and really uh added added something extra to this song that you didn't even think it needed. Like you could take that middle three, four minutes where it's just kind of the the core part of the song, and and that works. And right the rest of it's just kind of icing on the cake.
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely, yeah. I agree. Like there are a lot of outros that I find myself just skipping, but I I tended to listen to this one uh more times than I thought I would, uh just because I really enjoyed how it worked. So it's cool.

SPEAKER_00:Um, all right, track number seven, that is Thank You by Alanis Morissette.
SPEAKER_01:And that is just the letter U this time, we want to clarify. Yeah. Um so we talked a lot about the album Jagged Little Pill. I mean, it's one of the greatest selling albums of all times. I mean, probably a blessing and a curse for Alanis Morissette because it probably made her more famous and wealthy than she could ever imagine. But then it's like, that's your debut album, you know. So what do you do next? And she's actually done some really cool work. Um, this is from one of the from the follow-up album to that one. It's called Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. And I think this might have been the lead single off that album uh when it came out. So it's highly anticipated. And I mean, you know, good for her for kind of immediately just thanking all these things in her life that were going on, because it was probably insane going from you know, she had done some TV work prior to Jagged Little Pill coming out, and then obviously now she's this global phenomenon at that point. And so good for her for being grounded enough to sit there and thank, you know, people and and sort of things in her life. So it this goes beyond just people, um, which I think is really cool. But it's it's a great song of gratitude. And when you put it in the context of where she was in her life, I think it's even cooler.
SPEAKER_00:I I totally agree. Um, I really love the bridge here where she sings like the moment I let go of it was the moment I got more than I could handle. The moment I jumped off of it was the moment that I touched down. And I really, really enjoy that too, because I think so often whenever we like have a goal or we have something in mind, like we're really trying to get it. But like ironically, whenever we find that we kind of let go of it and just let it be, is whenever we start to like receive. Um, and so I think again, that's like a message of like be, you know, give more than you take, and you'll end up actually realizing that you're getting a lot more. It's really bizarre. Um, but I find that has been true in my life as well. So I I love the song, and again, like she's got such a good voice, and just hearing her sing here is like incredible. Um, she's so freaking talented as a singer, so it's really nice to hear that come through and and it in such a nice sentiment uh with the song as well.
SPEAKER_01:All right, track eight. This is thank you, and it is by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah. Um, off the latest album, these two snuck in on the thank you mix, and I'm so happy for it. But um the Sly Song, right, comes back. Um obviously they they kind of sample that really heavily here. They both have, you know, we sort of have the same song, but this one is obviously a much more modern, um, updated version of it, has a much deeper bass line, which I am all here for. And Snoop rapping is like such a treat because like we don't get it very often anymore. He's become such a media personality that you see him posting a lot of things. Um, so the fact that he's like back in the studio and actually rapping on a song is is a treat, and I love it. Um, and I fully expect him to take front center stage again in the Los Angeles um Olympics coming up because he was already such a big part of the Paris uh Olympics. So I can only imagine he's just gonna be like MC of the whole thing. Uh so that's gonna be really fun. Ambassador Snoop for sure.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, he's gonna be taking people on tours, right? Like, yeah. Take the French national team through like Tompton. I think that's gonna be great. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00:They're not ready.
SPEAKER_01:They're not ready. They're not ready. No, they're not. Um, yeah, this one, I mean, I just wrote like this song is awesome. I mean, plain and simple. And and you're right, like it's a good reminder of people just know, like my kids know who Snoop Dogg is, right? But I'm not letting them listen to his music quite yet.
unknown:Right.
SPEAKER_01:But it's one of those things where once they get into it, they'll be like, this guy's awesome. It's like, yeah, that's how he became super famous. Yeah. That's how this stuff kind of works. It's like people forget that iced tea was a rapper, right? Right. They're just like, yeah, the guy from SVU, right? It's like, why do they call him Iced T? It's like, well, he had a previous career.
SPEAKER_00:That's awesome. Um, all right, track number nine, one of the greatest band names of all time, as we've discussed before, but this is Thank You by Nathaniel Ratliff and the Night Sweats.
SPEAKER_01:Yes. Um, this one has a really cool, almost like 1950s feel to it. I mean, I just love these guys and their sound. Um, and I mean, a lot of it is just like, I just want to thank you. I mean, the lyrics are pretty straightforward. He just continually says, I just want to thank you. And I mean, Sam, you've got another show on the super awesome Mixed Podcast Network called The Forward Theory. And I I think you could probably speak to just hearing positive things like that over and over again, just sort of boosts your mood, right?
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely, yes. I love a good positive, um, positive message, a good mantra, if you will, or or affirmation, I believe is the cool kids call them. Um, but I also really like the song. Yeah. A, the band name, again, just really makes me laugh. I love, I love adding the night sweats on the on the back end. That's great. But it's also like a really nice, kind of folksy, country-ish song. Like it's hard for me to place which direction it is, which you know makes me like it. Um, because it's not it's not necessarily strict country. Um, so it's really nice. It was a very nice country. Country adjacent. It's country adjacent. Yeah, it's safe. It's safe in that regard. It does not get an Olympic rating as a result. So all right.
SPEAKER_01:Well, we got three tracks left. None of these are country at all. Okay, starting with track 10. This is Thank You by Diana Ross.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, this song, I love the opening notes to this song. Like it's just instant joy. Um, there's just something about how the song opens up to just instantly brings a smile to my face. Um, it's just got that kind of positive feel to it. And so I really like this song. And obviously the lyrics are quite beautiful too. You know, her singing, You're the reason my world keeps turning, like the blood running through my veins, sunshine when there's only rain, you're the reason my heart keeps learning. And I really, really like that. Um, you know, it's just really nice to again think about the people in your life that you that you love, that love you back, and how magical that is to get to spend your time with people you care about, whether they're a partner, a friend, family member, doesn't matter, a pet, you know, who cares? Um, like all of these people are expressions of love in our life, and that's a really magical and wonderful thing to be grateful for. Um, and also this song is just a great reminder that Diana Ross is amazing and her voice is incredible. Um, and we should we should always celebrate that. So thank you to Diana Ross for sharing her her amazing voice with all of us.
SPEAKER_01:I I made the note. I think this is the first time Diana Ross is on the mix. I think so. It's the first time we've included her. So I was actually kind of shocked. I was like, man, somehow it's never come up. Yeah. Um, but what I loved about this one is that outside of the mention of like, you know, the sunshine versus rain contrast, there wasn't this. I think sometimes thong songs about thank you as I was researching them are like, my life kind of sucks, but thanks for being something bright in my life, right?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And this one wasn't really about that. It was just more like thank you for adding to like my life, which is probably appropriate because at this point, Diana Ross is probably like the biggest celebrity in the world. So it's hard to be like, yeah, man, my life's hard, you know? Um but I think that's also cool is that you don't have to come from it, doesn't have to be this contrast where it's like I'm down in the dumps and somebody picks you up. It could be just something where it's like, hey, like you're good, you're happy with where you're at, and then you're just thankful for this person also being in your life and adding to it. So I thought that was cool.
SPEAKER_00:I love that. Yeah, I totally agree. Like it's important to like understand that it's not kind of a zero-sum game. Like it's it's okay to have a good life. You should celebrate, you should feel bad for that, and then it's great to have an even better one, you know. Like, I think it's really easy for us to kind of feel bad about like feeling good, and that's it's a bizarre thing, but um, feel good about feeling good. Like, don't let anyone take that away from you. That's awesome too. All right, with that, let's go to your last pick of the mix, track number 11, and it is Thank You by Buster Rhymes, featuring Q-tip, Kanye West, and Little Wayne.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, just on the artist list, I was like, Well, I gotta listen to this one, right? Yeah, I mean this one feels like it's gonna be awesome. Um, I wanted to go out on kind of an energetic note. I feel like a lot of these thank you songs are very sweet songs, and I wanted something uh with a little more energy to it. This one's like just kind of funky right from the beginning. Um, a little bit different from I think any of these guys' normal sounds, right? Just right off the bat, those first few beats. Uh the sample is on Alicia Myers song called I Wanna Thank You. But yeah, it's just a great, I mean, each of them comes up and does their thing, and I I don't know, it's just awesome. I I just could listen to this over and over again as just kind of a positive song, um, as well as one that kind of gets you fired up.
SPEAKER_00:I totally agree. Um, I love, love, love listening to Q-tip rap. Like I think his voice is so unique in the rap world, and it's like one of my favorite voices. So I also was really excited for that. And then Little Wayne has also been having a moment for me this year. Uh, it's like Logic and Little Wayne, um, both with with new music this year for sure. But uh like Little Wayne's album, I think Carter 4 was just so freaking good. Um, and so that's one that I've been listening to all year all year long as well. And so I'm with the baby. With the baby, he loves it, he can't get enough of it. I was having a conversation with Matt that like we're not playing him. My wife and I aren't playing him like kids' songs yet. Yeah. Um, there's very little music to be played at all, right? It's mostly us humming and singing. But I realized I started to like we don't know nursery rhymes, so I started to hum um Lowrider by War. And it turned out he loved that, you know, which is kind of it makes sense. It's like doot doot doot doot doot doot doot, you know, like it's got a nice little sound to it.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, war, brilliant musicians. It sounds like children's music.
SPEAKER_00:You're right. So I played that for him, and he literally just starts kind of moving. And I like, this is great. He's already off to a strong start.
SPEAKER_01:I love it. I was the same way. Like nursery rhymes just didn't come off the top of my head. And so I would just like sing other stuff to my kids or play them just like regular music I was never into.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Like, wait till you get into the kids bop era, or hopefully you can miss that altogether. But we'll have to do a kid's bop mix one of these times because that's got there's some there's some comedy to be mine there for sure. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I love when they pick it an overly explicit song and somehow decide to mix it, you know, like rewrite the lyrics. Oh, yeah. It's like, why did you try? Why did you try it? Why bother?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah why bother? Yeah. Um, all right. Well, listen, after all these times we say thank you. It's only appropriate that we give an appropriate response. And so your last track, it is You're Welcome by Dwayne Johnson.
SPEAKER_00:Yes. Um, I this one I just wanted to end it on that note because here's what happens in my household. My wife and I get into thank you loops with each other. And sometimes it's like, sometimes one of you just needs to break the loop and say, You're welcome and just have it end there. Um, it's also a joke that we have, like we sometimes like we'll give a gift to someone, then they give us a thank you card, but they'll also give maybe a thank you gift back for the gift. And it's like, well, now do we need to give them a thank you card? Because it's like, it's too much. It's too much. So my recommendation is obviously say thank you to people in your life, be grateful. Um, but at some point, one of you should say, You're welcome. It's a really nice way of just kind of acknowledging the thank you. Uh, you don't need to give one back if you've already felt like you've given plenty. Um, but also, of course, this is you know, Dwayne Johnson The Rock uh singing on Moana soundtrack, and he's he's great. Like I think his vocals are perfect for this, a little bit of a rap. Um, and he's just got like, I think he as a human being exudes the same energy as as the character he's playing here. Um, you know, just kind of like, hey, you're welcome. I am awesome. You know, like I think he's so confident as a human being. Um, and so this is like a lot of fun in a in a song as well about that. So uh yeah, just an important little reminder. Say, like that's an that's an appropriate response to someone saying thank you. You can just say, you're welcome.
SPEAKER_01:Uh I love it. I love this song. Um, you know, we were just talking about kids' music. One thing you'll find is that a lot of these movies, like these Disney. Movies have kind of awesome music. Uh, the Moana soundtrack was written by Lynn Manuel Miranda, and he talked about when he was writing this song, he was so excited to write for Dwayne Johnson because he could write something like this that embodied sort of those macho kind of hero elements that that he has as the rock, right? Yeah. And just this overconfident person. And you're right, like the character Maui in these movies kind of embodies that as well. So um, and Dwayne Johnson can sing, and and we learned that years ago. Like he went on Saturday Night Live for the first time, and we kind of discovered that, and he's just kind of kept doing it. Um, so that was also awesome to hear him on just a track like this. So, yeah, no, great stuff and and a great way to uh to end this thank you mix. So there you have it. Uh another super awesome mix for your collection, this time just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Make sure you thank um everyone uh in your life that that deserves some some gratitude. And and you could thank us by just sharing the show, give us and giving us a five-star review. I mean, we appreciate that. Um, but yeah, go ahead and do that and then uh check us out on social media, Instagram, threads, and YouTube at Super Awesome Mix. SPEAKER_00:I can't believe it. I cannot believe it. This year has flown by for so many reasons. Um, but yes, thank you to all of our listeners as always for for being with us every step of the way and and for being a listener friend.
SPEAKER_01:All right. So Sam and I will get to work on our best of mixes. Enjoy your Thanksgiving holidays. So for Sam, this is Matt, and we'll see you next time.
