Spring shows up and suddenly the release calendar explodes, so Matt and Sam do what we always do on Super Awesome Mix: sift through the chaos and hand you a March new music playlist that’s actually worth your time.

We start with U2’s “Yours Eternally,” a collaboration that pulls in Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian artist Taras Topolia and frames a protest minded moment with an unexpectedly hopeful finish. From there we jump into Death Cab for Cutie’s “Riptides,” a track that captures modern burnout in one chorus, then test the line between country and pop with Megan Moroney and Sheeran. The mix keeps pivoting: Charlotte Sands brings a hard rock jolt, King Tuff turns time into a hook you’ll quote all week, and Blackpink proves again how effortlessly K-pop can play as mainstream pop and hip hop.

On the rap and rock side, we dig into Killer Mike’s soundtrack cut and the idea that honesty beats a friendly facade, then crank up The Pretty Reckless, Freddie Gibbs with DJ Paul (adult ears only), and Sevendust’s “Unbreakable” for anyone who needs a little volume to get through the day. We close with Bleachers pushing back against outside noise and a Mumford and Sons collaboration with Chris Stapleton that somehow feels both simple and huge.

Spring Catch Up And Mix Setup

SPEAKER_01

Welcome back to another Super Awesome Mix. My name is Matt Sinholm alongside my co-host and co-founder of Super Awesome Mix, Sam Abu Salbi. Sam, how are we doing this week?

SPEAKER_00

Doing real well. Happy start to spring. Um I know.

SPEAKER_01

Golly, 2026, you're just flying by. We're already into spring.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's unreal. It really is unreal. Um, we hit the 60s uh the other day, which I I'm for the first time in my life welcoming the warmer weather because that winter was so brutal.

SPEAKER_01

You guys did have a brutal winter. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It was rough.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we've already hit the 90s here. Oh my god. So it looks like it's gonna be a super hot summer. Um we had like three days of winter, I think, here, and everything shut down. Right. And now we're back. We're back to being hot.

SPEAKER_00

Amazing, amazing. Um, speaking of hot, like we got some hot tracks on this new music mix today.

SPEAKER_01

A little morning radio DJ for you, huh? Hey, let's check out the hot 100.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but we do. I mean, we talk about this uh, I think every January we kind of hit on this, how it's like, all right, year starts out slow, and then we just start getting like big name after big name coming out with new stuff. And there's even some I feel like we left out of this one, but maybe next month we'll get them on or something. But um, I don't know. It's just crazy how much uh how much new music it is there is. I mean, we say that all the time, but also just how much from from really big name artists, too.

U2 EP And War Perspective

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and so let's kick that off with um two very large names in the music industry. You it's your first pick, and this is yours eternally, featuring Ed Sheeran and Teres Toppola by U2.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, how about this? Uh so U2 came out with an EP um called Days of Ash, and it was released on February 18th, which was Ash Wednesday in the Catholic liturgical calendar. So good Irish boys that they are, they they went ahead and put it out on Ash Wednesday. Um, they are working on a full new album that I don't think any of these tracks are going to be on, but they kind of recorded these as part of their recording session, and similar to their um similar to Friend of This Show and their contemporary Bruce Springsteen, this is largely a protest and like political album. Um I didn't feature the opening track, which is called American Obituary, which parallels Bruce's streets of Minneapolis that that we featured last month. Um the difference here is that you know there's six songs on this EP. They touch on some world events. In this one, like you said, they get help from Ed Sheeran as well as um Teras Topolya, uh, which is a Ukraine singer tour turned soldier. So so they're kind of touching on you know the the conflict in Ukraine, and it this song is written from the perspective of a soldier riding home, you know, from the war. Um I'll call it the lyrics in the chaos of the earth will find beauty. Um, which I mean, there's just so much chaos everywhere right now. And so um I think this song just sounds great. I think Sheeran and and Topolia do a great job, like kind of helping out you two here, which makes this a very different sounding song than just kind of your straight-ahead U2 song. But um, they still sound great as well. So I'm really looking forward to that full new album because they're like it's gonna be just, I guess, you know, probably a dozen or so just brand new songs from them. But you know, I think they still got it, and uh this was this was a great find, I think. And and the whole EP is really worth looking into.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I think um, if I'm not mistaken, this one ends the EP. And they said specifically they wanted to end on kind of a more hopeful note because um if I'm reading between the lines, I think the rest of the album is gonna be kind of rough to go through in terms of just like the subject matter and and you know, um, the realities of what we're facing today. But um, yeah, this is you know ultimately like a really lovely song about friendship, I think. And it's it's just it has a really nice, happy vibe to it. It's hopeful. Uh I really love the guitar play in it. And yeah, these two guys, um, you know, certainly Ed Sheeran and you two together, like it's it's kind of funny that they haven't done more together because I feel like they it works really well here. Um so maybe we'll see more collaborations between them going forward.

SPEAKER_01

And I'd imagine this was such a thrill for Ed Sheeran because it's like growing up, it was probably like, oh my gosh, you two, like these are like rock gods, and it's like, hey, why don't you come help us out? So I I imagine that was kind of cool too.

SPEAKER_00

For sure.

Death Cab And Shared Exhaustion

SPEAKER_01

Um, all right. Your first pick. Uh no surprise, if these guys come out with a new album, they're gonna end up on this show. This track is called Riptides by Death Cab for Cutie.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I'll be completely honest. I literally added the song before even playing it. I I just saw that I saw that they had a new music and I was like, well, that's going on. The new music mix. I love it. I love it. I don't even need to hear it. I still haven't heard it. No.

SPEAKER_01

Um as of this recording, still haven't listened to it, but I'll tell you it's great. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. They're best stuff yet. Um no, but it is uh it's it's it's a great track. I'm very excited for the new album. I'm always torn whenever they release any band releases a single off of an upcoming album. Do I do I put it on the new music mix because the single came out this month, or do I wait until the album comes out and then talk about it then? And maybe I'll just do both because you know, maybe they'll there'll be even more great music coming out um on the rest of the album. But the album's called I Built You a Tower. Um, this to me just sounds like a classic Deathcab for Cutie song, right? Like again, they've they've got a formula, they stick to it, and I'm here for it all every day of the week. Um, I think this again just kind of speaks to that almost this like sense of tiredness that we all have and and we all kind of share with just like the onslaught of what just seems to be like bad news after bad news and and conflict after conflict and you know major storm event after major storm event and everything. And I I just think that he's like really speaking to that. Um, you know, the chorus kind of sums it all up. So I'm too tired to talk, I'm too tired to end the war, I can't seem to hold it together anymore. I'm too tired to start, I can't bring you up to speed. There's too many riptides in the ocean to proceed. Um, so it's just this feeling of just yeah, this kind of almost developed shared hopelessness of like, oh my god, there's just so much, and I don't even know where to begin. So um, I think that I imagine the rest of the album will also kind of speak to that shared feeling that a lot of us have of just like I I don't know where to begin. There's too many riptides in the ocean. So uh I'm very eager for this album.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you threw me for a curbball here because I was like, oh, this sounds like a pretty upbeat song. Okay, little death death cat for cutie, here we go. And then you start listening to it, and I'm like, you know what? Being tired in an ocean with a bunch of riptides is not a good combination, and so this probably isn't gonna end well for the character in the song. Um, so yeah, you got me again. Okay, kind of a sad song. But um yeah, no, I I did like it though. I mean, I think it sounded great, and um, like you said, you know, kind of classic for them and just kind of in line with their song. I kind of wish they had written it. It's like if I was gonna write a third verse or something to this song, like give me, give me something to hang on to, right? Right? Like, give me, give me a branch or something that they could reach out to in that ocean because I do think, and we talk about this on the show, it's like if you just watch the news all the time, you are gonna be that tired and you are just gonna think about the riptides, but I do think there's hope out there, and I think we got to keep emphasizing that and kind of you know bringing that up for people because it's you know, it we're gonna make it through, whatever it is. And and it's like don't let the the the news media, you know, whatever side of the news media that you're listening to just kind of continue to bring you down.

Ed Sheeran Meets Modern Country

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, yeah. No, I totally agree. Um, I always say, you know, I there's a Fred Rogers quote that I really love, which is like look for the helpers, like you'll always find helpers. Um I think that that's really powerful um when the world feels like it's a bit crushing. But let's uh let's change gears here. Um Ed Sheeran has apparently been a busy guy because he's on this next track again. And this is I Only Miss You by Megan Moroni and Ed Sheeran.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I thought this was cool because I mean I like both of these songs, the U2 song and the Megan Moroni song. But like I said, in the U2 song, he's probably sitting there going, Oh my god, I can't believe I'm working with you too. And in this song, Megan Moroni's probably sitting there going, I can't believe I'm working with Ed Sheeran. So it's like it's kind of cool how this works in in the music world. Um, but Megan Moroney's a country star. Um, I got to take my daughter and a friend of hers to one of her shows in Dallas last year. She she's excellent. Um, she's got a new album called Cloud Nine. And I I knew, like I try, I'm trying to put country music more on our song of the day. So if you're following our song of the day, okay, we are at Super Awesome Mix on Instagram and threads. And our our song of the day, I'll put more country music on there because Sam, I'm gonna stop just pushing it down your throat. But something like this, I feel like is a good, like kind of pop song, right? And Ed Sheeran helps it make it a little less country. Um, this is such a good, just like heartbreak song. Uh, the line, I only miss you when I'm breathing, and my face is far from blue, and it just goes on from there. So um, I'm hoping you took this as like, oh, this is a good song and didn't get too bogged down in the country nature of it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I unfortunately I just found it to be super twangy, and like so because of the twanginess, it it tipped the scales to be on my Olympic scale. And I had to give it a three out of ten. I'm so excited.

SPEAKER_01

Holly, dang it, I really know.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I thought that too, and I was like, oh, okay, like this this actually might be something that that I'm on board with. Um having said that, I agree the lyrics are great. Like they they really do speak to um that just feeling of uh of you know really missing someone with all you know, every fiber of your being, basically. And they repeat that theme throughout. So I do really like the lyrics. Um, but yes, it was it was just a bit too on the countryside for me still.

Hard Rock Cleanser And Dark Lyrics

SPEAKER_01

All right. All right, we'll try again someday. Um, all right. Next track, your pick. It is One Eye Open by Charlotte Sands.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so this was definitely like a palette cleanser for me, and I'm happy that it just fell after that last track. Um, just naturally I listened to that one, and then this one came on, and I'm like, oh, finally, okay, great. Um because this is just a classic hard rock song with great female lead vocals. Um, you know, you don't get a lot of like hard rock female vocals, um, and and she definitely holds her own. She's an incredible singer. Um, this is also one of those songs where it's like, I don't care about the lyrics really, you know, like in several of these other ones that we're gonna talk about, the lyrics are really important. But this one I'm just like, you know what? I just I find myself raising the volume, listening to it, um, cranking it up. This is like a one of those songs where I would listen to this on my way to the gym or for a workout class or something. I just want to like get all amped up and need the energy. So yeah, just a classic hard rock song. I came upon it and decided to put on the mix.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I love her voice. I I thought she does a great job here. Um this uh I got into the lyrics and it's actually pretty dark. It sounds like kind of a pretty unhealthy relationship we're looking at here that she's in. Yeah, I just wish this character would get as far away as possible from this former mate uh when I was listening to this. So it made me it was less like pump up and it was almost a little bit unnerving when I got into the the lyrics here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's why you shouldn't read the lyrics ever. Just don't do it. That's a good point. Yeah, stop reading. Just avoid it. It's dangerous. Um and if you read some invisible ink, then you wouldn't be reading at all, um, which is track number five, and that's Invisible Ink by King Tough.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, King Tough is a band led by a guy named Kyle Thomas. Uh, they've got a new album called Moo. Um, it's actually their sixth album, so it's like this is another one of those funny situations where it's like never heard of this band, and then it's like they've got all this work behind them. So um I think this could be a fun band to get into. Uh, I'd love it, I thought this had just one just had a cool sound to it, right? And uh the message is pretty timeless, right? It's the fleeting nature of time. Uh the lyric here, Time Goes by in a blink, like it was written in invisible ink. Um, so I don't know. This one just kind of I just sort of stumbled upon it as kind of, hey, who's got new stuff coming out? And uh just really like this one. And I think they've got this is just one of two tracks they've released off the new album so far, but um, I think it's gonna be pretty good.

SPEAKER_00

I loved this song. I thought this was like a really nice springtime track um too. It just had like a really good kind of high energy. Um, I really love also, you know, the lyric is have a laugh, have a cry, life is short, then you fly. And that that threw me the very first time I heard it because you expect them to hear, do you expect to hear like life is short, then you die. Um, but I really like and said that play on that of just like then you fly, you know, it just kind of gives this sense of freedom that comes next and not this like darkness um that happens at the end of life. So I loved that. That caught me for um, you know, caught me by surprise, but in the best way. So this is a really, really nice song. And I agree, I I'm gonna have to check out this King Tough because I had no idea they existed on that many albums. It's great.

Blackpink Pop Power And Crossover

SPEAKER_01

Well, speaking of bands, we definitely know existed because they've been on the show before, they've they're pretty much everywhere. But track six is Me and My by Blackpink.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, my goodness, K-pop is definitely having an enormous moment. Um, I mean, they have been for a long time, but it's uh Blackpink is just like a force. It's amazing. But I I love how catchy this song is. Um it just seems like it would belong in like a movie montage scene with like women rolling out to a club or something. I don't know. That's like the the energy that it gives. It just is like a really good kind of party anthem or pre-party anthem. I just think they're really good at pop music. They're pop music geniuses, honestly. Um, and this is off of like a little EP that they put out. So this is just a really fun, kind of catchy song that you you know, there's not much to the lyrics uh in this case. There's really nothing deeper than what they're singing, but that's why I think it works. It's just like a great party anthem song.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, I think my note on this one is that I didn't even think this was K-pop, this was just hip hop, right? Right? Like it it's they've sort of completely transitioned from sort of a niche genre to something that is is pretty broad, to where if you just played me this track and I didn't know it was blackpink, I would just kind of think it's some big hip-hop artist. I mean, it had kind of a Destiny's Child feel to it.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Um, yeah, I mean, I think this could be a huge hit for them. Not that they don't have huge hits already, but it's like the this is another one and it just makes all the sense in the world. So yeah, I think they've successfully kind of transitioned to just being sort of uh a really good and sort of broadly accepted group beyond just that K-pop label.

Killer Mike On Spies And Facades

SPEAKER_00

For sure, I totally agree. All right, next track, one of my favorite rap artists, speaking of rap music, this is Spying Eyes, Parentheses Smiling Faces by Killer Mike, featuring Lena Bird Miles.

SPEAKER_01

So this is from the soundtrack of a new show on Amazon called The Greyhouse. Have you heard of this? I have not. You've got a newborn, you don't know what's going on.

SPEAKER_00

No, that's correct, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Pop culture world, so I shouldn't even ask. But I if it makes you feel any better, I had not heard of it either. And uh the reviews haven't been great of the show. It's set in the Civil War and it's about a woman-led network of spies during the Civil War. So it actually sounds kind of interesting, but yeah, um, it doesn't sound like it's getting huge reviews. But um, if it means we get a new track from Killer Mike, then I'm like, this is totally worth it. Um, I just loved this song uh just from the beginning. I mean, I I don't know. I feel like I've put him on the mix several times uh whenever I come across a new track by him. But this is kind of told it looks like from the perspective of a slave, um, and it kind of makes sense once you're you kind of put it in the context of the soundtrack. And so there's talk of hypocrisy and revenge, and um, I imagine it probably tells you a lot about the show. So kind of got me a little bit interested in the show, but more just hey, if if if the show's terrible and we just get this trap from killer mic, I think that's a debut for everybody.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. That's absolutely a win. Um, I love, love listening to him rap. Um, I love him and run the jewels. That's probably one of my like all-time favorite groups. Uh incredible duo there. But yeah, I I really like the line too. Like smiling faces, sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh, which is so true as a line itself. Um, people always ask me like, or they would ask me initially whenever I moved to New York from Texas, where obviously like Southern hospitality is like a big thing, and here not so much. But I was like, you know what? Honestly, I'd rather someone be like mean to me than and I know that they're being like genuine than being like nice to me. But the second that like, you know, they turn their back or I turn my back, like the facade is gone, right? So like I I found a comfort here of someone being a jerk to me, being like, cool, like that's now I know who you are. That's that's wonderful.

SPEAKER_01

Um, totally agree. Yeah. The older I get, the more I'm just like, I'll take somebody who's super honest, uh, whether I like them or not, over somebody who's pretty clearly being phony, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yeah, exactly.

Pretty Reckless Rock And Sleep Deprivation

SPEAKER_01

Um, all right. Now you talked about a great hard rock song earlier. I think you got another great hard rock song here. Uh, this is When I Wake Up by The Pretty Reckless.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, another one with very strong female lead vocals. Um, you know, Pretty Reckless, Taylor Momson, uh, very, very long career. And she, yeah, it's been doing a lot with The Pretty Reckless. For some reason, I thought she was done with the band. Um, I don't remember why. Maybe just one night hazily scrolling through Instagram, I thought like that was a wrap on her on her making new music. I might be totally wrong about that. Um, but here we are with new music, which is great. What's funny is like this song, you know, the subject matter is like when um, you know, when I wake up, I don't know where I was last night. She's kind of, in her words, she said this is a story of a dream becoming a nightmare. And I think, you know, in her world, it's a lot of like rock and roll and like late nights and drinking and whatever. For me, I relate to this because I'm just so sleep deprived by a baby that I I've literally had these experiences more often than not of like when I wake up, I just don't know where I was last night. Um, I've definitely had moments where I wake up from a nap or from you know middle of the night, I'm like, where am I? What happened? Um so far less uh salacious than what she's probably alluding to.

SPEAKER_01

Probably so, but maybe maybe a little harder to work through, possibly. Right. Um I I love this one. It reminded me of like Joan Jett or Pat Benatar. You know, like her voice is not something she's not Celine Dion, right? Like she's not gonna stand up there and just sing this and just bring you to tears with her voice, but I I love her voice nonetheless. So it's like that's kind of the the magic I feel like of rock and roll versus um just someone who's maybe a straight-ahead great singer. Um, but yeah, what a what a great just rock song. I don't know. I I feel like we get less just great straight-ahead rock, and so that's where it's like I I heard this and I was like, man, this is great. I really liked it.

Freddie Gibbs Hype Track Warning

SPEAKER_00

I totally agree with that, yeah, yeah. Like the things are bleeding genres a lot lately, whereas like this is just very clearly in the line of of hard rock. So um, all right. This next song you should not put on any kind of family road trip uh mixes. Um this is for adult ears only. This is Find Out by Freddie Gibbs and DJ Paul.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is a song that if like you bleep out all the bad words, you really have no song. It's just one bleep for three minutes. Um, but if you're looking to get fired up, look no further than this track, right? Um, it's pretty straightforward. Okay, the title comes from the phrase F around and find out. And Freddie Gibbs pretty much lets everyone know they shouldn't mess with him. And I love it. Okay. So we've done the strut anthems before. You've talked about, you know, you do you have to do a lot more walking in New York than we do here in Dallas. But I mean, if you're walking somewhere, if you're driving somewhere, like throw this song on and and you're gonna be in the right mindset for whatever meeting you're going to if it if it's potentially adversarial, right? Right. I mean, obviously, if you're going to, you know, Easter brunch or something like that, this is probably not the right track to listen to. Um, but but anything uh other than that, I think this is this is the perfect track.

SPEAKER_00

Unless you have a mix of like political opinions at this Easter brunch, in which case you might want to put this on getting it. It's a great point.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. If there's a lot of politic talks in your future, then um, yeah, maybe maybe get this fired up.

SPEAKER_00

This is um, you know, you just talked about like classic hard rock songs. This is like such a classic, hard hitting rap song, right? Like just fantastic bass. It had me raising the volume on my headphones, like so, so good. And I love that phrase. It's actually one of my all time favorite phrases the F around and find out because it's just like it sums it up so perfectly um sometimes. Like is just exactly the phrase that is in your mind. So it's good stuff.

Sevendust Returns With Unbreakable Energy

SPEAKER_01

All right. Your next pick. This is Unbreakable by Seven Dust.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I was just on a hard rock kick, you know, apparently. I didn't even really intend for that, but I just found myself gravitating towards these picks.

SPEAKER_01

And then I I think it's the sleep deprivation.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It could be Yeah. You'll just see this year I'm just going to slowly devolve into I don't even just hard rock like Nordic death metal or something. Right.

SPEAKER_01

By the end of the year, yeah. It's gonna be a ton of death metal and it's gonna be like, no, I mean love the guitar in this one. Sounds pretty complicated.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't didn't really understand the lyricist but you know yeah yeah I I love the pitch that he gets in the two and a half minute scream that he does here. Um it's really nice. Just enough to keep you awake. Um yeah no this is like is this sounds like the Seven Dust I used to listen to way back in high school. And again we've called this out specifically with this band. This is their 15th studio album.

SPEAKER_01

God yeah 15 like incredible I I don't know I haven't met someone who listens to so I don't know like they must have a huge fan base right um they're putting but they are a band like I'm not even like into them but I immediately recognize the name so it's like you say 15 and I'm like geez that's a lot but then I'm like well when's the last like I feel like they've been around for a long time so I guess maybe that is right you know yeah yeah I I don't know in my head it's like there's like the the the queens of the stone age and the foo fighters of the world and then there's like a seven dust you know like so that's the part that I'm just like confused by.

SPEAKER_00

But either way it's a great it's a great hard rock song um and I I enjoyed listening to it.

Bleachers Block Out The Noise

SPEAKER_01

So kudos to them I also love the the message here right we were meant to be unbreakable even when our when we're at our lowest low so it's like you know Sam maybe you did just get two hours of sleep but you're unbreakable okay I'm unbreakable like you can you can fight through this um I also like the line give me the violence because sometimes it's like you need a little bit of aggressiveness right and I do like when people use the word violence to replace that because it's like you know that just I it's almost a little bit more direct than let's get more aggressive it's like no let's get violent and it's like yeah it's a great word let's go I love that yeah I could just imagine you coaching a little league team I do yeah I want to look at my son's third grade team be like guys in the second half we need violence okay I need some violence out there and they're like coach what are we what are we doing are we getting orange slices like why are you yelling at us look you guys are gonna have a winning record by the end of that season coaching like that as well we're unbreakable we are breakable yeah um all right let's take this home your last pick on the track track 11 it is dirty wedding dress by bleachers um I love bleachers and they've got another new album coming out this year they are led by of course uh longtime Taylor Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff um I don't know this one was so fun it's just great energy i it's it's he's singing about blocking out all the craziness around him from people who think a certain way about his relationships they think a certain way about his music or or just whatever it just seems like there's just a lot of craziness which kind of makes sense when you think about how probably mega famous he is and I imagine this happens to a lot of people who are kind of mega successful is is you just get people coming from all sides either telling you you suck or they're gonna sue you or whatever. Right. And you just have to kind of fight through it. Um so so I love that theme. I love the the sound of this one but also really interesting this is the third bleacher song I've come across and they actually named a whole album this but they use the phrase take the sadness out of Saturday night which is one of the names of their albums but it's also the third song where they've worked that phrase in and I tried to do a search of it and I couldn't find anybody kind of being like yeah isn't that interesting they keep using this but it's definitely a motif so I feel like if Jack Ansinoff's any ever on the show I'm gonna bring that up and be like man talk about that. What's going on?

SPEAKER_00

I know yeah that's a really interesting phrase that they have used a bunch we should um we should dig into that that's really interesting.

Mumford Sons With Chris Stapleton

SPEAKER_01

Well because clearly it's like something's happened right where it's like he's associating Saturday with sadness but then something comes along that pulls him out of that so it's like it is kind of universal even if you don't know the story right but it is interesting that that particular phrase has just come up over and over.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah yeah there's something about Saturdays interesting interesting all right let's bring it home uh and I love this song this was this is here by Mumford Sons featuring Chris Stapleton yes this is how you get me to listen to a Chris Stapleton song you uh you staple himself I was so proud of you I was so proud of you you staple him onto a Mumford Sons song thank you thank you well you know it got me right because Mumford Sons is also one of my like autoplay um bands like I just I love them I love their sound um got a chance to watch them like live at a at a gala recently like a couple years ago which is really cool because it's a much smaller setting but it was great. Um humble brag on that gala huh yeah look at this guy it's gala it's the one and only one I've ever been invited to it and it it was mind blowing I was like oh so this is what wealthy people do all the time this is great I definitely did not belong there Matt like it was it was so clearly it was so clearly like everyone else and then me you know yeah yeah okay everybody we're going uh let's start the bidding at$25,000 anybody$25,000 jump on in here yeah yeah no a hundred percent oh my god it was it was unreal anyway um but yes uh this is one of those songs where a hit play you know knowing obviously stapleton's on here is probably gonna be a little bit more countryish but it was I just found myself wanting to keep listening to it it's so good um I is maybe it's like just the simplicity of the of the song or it's the lyrics or both but I just I loved it and I found myself wanting to listen to it again and again. So this is a really cool collaboration between the two I I think they work really well together.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah I mean I thought it it didn't even sound all that country right obviously his voice has a certain twang to it but he's not super twangy to where it's like it overwhelms the track. Yeah um and yeah I mean I couldn't tell if the character in the song are they dying or it's a song about kind of legacy and I don't know I just loved it and just from the beginning I was like man what a great song and I guess it could be a little bit of a bummer but I don't know I didn't necessarily take it that way I just I just thought it was a really well written song and well performed and it sounded great.

SPEAKER_00

I I don't know that this was my favorite of your picks this month um just because and it just kind of blew me away when I heard it yeah I agree I and I can't I don't know what the character is going through either necessarily but it sounds yeah it just sounds it's like a song you just connect to suddenly it's interesting. It's really interesting.

SPEAKER_01

I I think you know beyond like there there's obviously you could you can hear it and I think think immediately of someone dying but I think also it's like you know having children that is kind of what you do. It's like here's this here's that and you're trying to kind of hand off sort of parts of yourself you know which you can't necessarily do with just like friends. And uh so I don't know it's uh it was just an amazing song I thought.

SPEAKER_00

Nice. Yeah I'm glad you liked it.
